What’s your most annoying task?

One of the things that has startled me most about family life is exactly how much time I spend in stain removal! I would never have dreamed what a time-consuming, frustrating and generally annoying occupation this would be. My partner thinks that the washing machine is the answer to removal of any kind of mark, and will blithely and optimistically chuck in any stained garments, so if I don’t want everything permanently cooked into the fabric I have to intervene in time. I’ve been forced to develop my skills in removing oil (cooking/engine/bicycle chain), blood, tomato-based sauces, spices, berry juices, coffee, grass, mud, ink, paint, wine… Today’s challenge I think is lipstick. This was on part of the costume I was allocated for our pantomime production. I haven’t been wearing any lipstick so I know it isn’t mine, but when I took the top off I found one large smear in the middle of the back and several other dashes here and there. I was going to take it back to the costume people, but then I thought that since they are already over-worked and pushed for time I would take it home and try to clean it up myself. Lipstick isn’t something I’ve had to deal with before. I’ve worked through my stain-removing guide and various online suggestions. I’ve tried toothpaste, alcohol, salt-and-vinegar paste, hydrogen peroxide and washing-up liquid/ dish soap. The stain has faded quite a bit and the smaller patches have gone I think but that seems to be the best I can manage. There is a limit to exactly how much time I can spend! My most annoying thing isn't really a task it's an action. I hate having to explain everything. From what I'm doing to why and if it was a kid I don't think I would be so annoyed but I'm explaining myself to my parents who I thought would get why I have to do certain things and do them a certain way. It wastes a lot of time and I fins that it's time I don't have during the day.

That does sound annoying and repetitive.

@Fleura Very. Sometimes I can work and explain but most of the time I have to stand there and do it so I'm wasting 10-15 minutes at least

Did you try the classic Marseille Soap? Wet the soap, rub on the stains let sit for 15 minutes, wash. I remember there was a product to remove lipstick stains, but I cannot remember the name.

@Fleura I think that Marseille Soap is a lot better than dish soap for the stains.

I did that with the dish soap, that seemed to help although it isn't completely gone. It is a lot paler though.

Probably taking out the trash. What annoys me is when I procastinate on it.

That's something I mostly avoid until the low spring sun makes it obvious that it really needs doing!

Must be the laundry. Even though it is all done by machine it is the sorting, waiting for it to finish, then more sorting and putting away. Then repeat a few days later

That's worse in spring or autumn, when you're not sure if the weather is warm and dry enough to dry it outside and you end up doing the 'laundry hokey cokey' where you take it out and hang it all out, then it starts to rain so you rush out and bring it all in again and hang it inside, then the sun comes out and a breeze starts to blow so you go back outside again...

When my Step-Dad leaves the tap dripping into the sink - especially when I'm trying to watch the telly! I have to get up and stop it dripping, empty the bowl of water and makes sure it's not dripping any more before I go back and sit down. Also, I don't mind washing up, but sometimes standing for long periods makes my legs ache.

@Fleura Oh, well he's a bit deaf you see, so he can't hear the dripping tap! He'd only know it was dripping if he SAW it dripping!

I use Oxi Clean spray and powder. It removes every stain. Dusting is my greatest annoyance and waste of time.
