Woke to terrible news.

My husband came home from work at 10:30 this morning. I asked what he was doing here. I was still in bed. Then I saw he was crying. His cousin (who lives in the area and works at the plant next to my husband's) lost his 28yo daughter last night. She was really sick so they took her to the hospital but died soon after. Not sure whether it was covid related or not. The cousin's wife is also sick. My husband insisted on going to their house. I told him no but he went anyway. I insisted he keep his mask on and no hugging. I know he is not going to listen to me. None of the members of that household (husband, wife, 2 adult daughters) have been vaccinated. When I called my oldest daughter (who is travelling) to tell her. She said she was on the way home. She just left yesterday so I said, "You tested positive." Yup. She's been sick all week. She got tested yesterday morning and then got on a plane yesterday without waiting for results. These 20-somethings still think that covid is a hoax, that it's just a cold. Will the rest of my family self-isolate like we are supposed to? Nope. Are they going to tell anyone? Nope. As reluctant as my younger daughter was to tell anyone or self-isolate she did tell a friend that she hung out with last week. That person took a rapid test and came back negative. But... rapid tests are known to be wrong. I am constantly fighting a cold so now I am super-paranoid. I am not allowed to tell anyone as per my daughter's instructions... but you are SUPPOSED to, that's what they take names and numbers for contact tracing. And my daughter works at the airport in security screening. Did she get it there? Or did she get it from her fiance's father who has been pretty sick the last couple of weeks. Not sure whether he was tested but they insist it wasn't covid. I am so fed up with people not taking this seriously. It has now touched my family and I am scared and upset. I know people who have been vaccinated who tested positive twice throughout the last year. Apart from not leaving my house, I don't know what to do.

Try to relax. Fear makes our immunity decline. Everything will be fine.

I know. But I've already been struggling with preventing a cold. I have a low immune system to begin with.

@Nevena83 I am. Have had chest pains but I think it's anxiety, or just fibromyalgia muscle pain. My husband keeps breaking down. I had to go lie down with him until he fell asleep.

I'm taking care of my husband who is a mess. His cousin was like his brother. They worked together, golfed together. Very close. My husband keeps breaking down in sobs every few minutes. I had to go lie down with him until he fell asleep. Well, I offered.

@CarolDM I'm not there. My husband is. I am trying to avoid covid and the mother tested positive as have some other people dropping by. And now my own daughter who is locking herself in her room. My other daughter and I are wearing a mask around the house.

Perhaps you should wear a mask around your family. What are you taking for your cold? Lots of vitamin C?

Always Vitamin C and Vitamin D. Also echinacea tea with lemon. Felt better after the tea but still I've had headaches on and off the last couple of weeks. Tonight I started to feel chest pains. I figure that's either due to anxiety or maybe even fibro.

@BarBaraPrz Yes, it eventually went away and I'm fine today. But was up most of the night as my husband started sobbing everytime he woke up. So I spent the night trying to comfort him. This is really rough.

First of all, don't panic. What the news doesn't tell you, is the vast majority of people who get covid, either don't develop symptoms, or have a mild case. People aren't dying as much as you think, but if all media talks about, is people dropping like flies, It can really scare anyone. Turn off the television, and do your research. And, I mean dig deep. Use only reliable sorces for information, such as the FDA website, CDC and so on. Those of your family who are sick, more than likely will be fine. Bare in mind, Covid, like any other illness, is a virus. Don't forget that. Remember, under the right circumstances the common cold can kill, and we don't have treatment or a vaccine for it.

I have terrible anxiety and this has just added to it big time. I have underlying health issues so don't want to get sick at all.

I understand how you feel. My grandson just tested positive and he's been vaccinated. I never for a minute thought this virus was a hoax but I've heard many people say it is I hope that you and your family are okay and it's really sad to hear about your husband's cousin.

If I lost a child I don't know what I would do. To have them be so cavalier about it is disturbing.

What a mess. I'm really sorry this is happening. I don't really have any answers for you. It's true the young think they are invincible. Sending loads of positive vibes.
