Slap-hap-happy Tuesday to you!! I’m working on the Valentine’s countdown and a rather ambitious project for, I think, March (something I did a couple of years ago and will revisit). But that’s then. This is now (ah, S.E. Hinton novels…..). And “now” is fulfilling @RasmaSandra ‘s request for songs with “star” in the title. Hey, look, Perry Como’s back!
#3: Don’t Let the Stars Get in Your Eyes - Ray Price
Slim Willet was a DJ by trade (he’s in the Country DJ Hall of Fame). But he wrote this bouncy little song that probably made him rich enough to own the radio station (so he wouldn’t have to worry about getting fired if he played this too much
). He did the first recording of “Don’t Let the Stars Get in Your Eyes.”
Then along came Skeets McDonald.
And Ray Price.
And, yes, Perry Como.
Then Goldie Hill did an answer song (“I Let the Stars Get in My Eyes”). And Homer and Jethro did a parody (with one of my all-time favorite lines of theirs: “her teeth were like the stars above because they come out every night”
).
So to say this song had a tad bit of popularity in 1952-53 is a major understatement.
I’m using Ray Price’s rendition because it was the first version of this song I heard….and it’s by far the most upbeat copy.
A true country classic that even made its way into pop.
Don’t Let the Stars Get in Your Eyes
Written by Slim Willet
Recorded by Ray Price
Released as a single, 1952

And so brilliant minds think alike, I love this song and doing my Country Music post today guess what Goldie Hill was born and guess what song is mentioned and I added it to my post, Cannot have too much of this song as long as there is more than one artist,
