Another thing I need explaining to me

So for months now - or even years - we have heard over and over again that the American Virginia Roberts Giuffre accuses Britain’s Prince Andrew of having sex with her in 2001 when she was 17 and he was 41. Now I haven’t been following this closely but I couldn’t help seeing some of the articles about the case. As far as I have been able to gather, Virginia was abused as a child by a family friend, which wrecked her life, sending her into a spiral of abuse and homelessness. She was later duped into working for Jeffrey Epstein who then allegedly trafficked her to his famous friends. Obviously there are a lot of wrong things going on here, but I fail to see what Prince Andrew has done wrong. He didn’t abuse her as a child. He didn’t traffic her to anyone. If he did have sex with her (and we don’t know for sure that he did, although if he didn’t I wonder why he hasn’t sued her for defamation/slander) then he might have done something ill-advised, but that still wouldn’t make it a crime - the age of consent is (and was then) 16. In the photo we have seen again and again, Virginia is grinning from ear to ear with her arm around Andrew, and she apparently contacted a friend to tell her ‘I got to sleep with Andrew!’ Is that what you’d expect of an abuse victim? I’m confused. If she was a victim of sex trafficking, why did she seem so happy about it at the time? Why hasn’t she gone after the family friend who abused her as a child? I would suspect there are many details we will never know.

We'll probably soon find out more than we ever wanted to know.

@Fleura I'm not sure if we will or not in this case. Too many involved that will not be held accountable.

I see Andrew has had many privileges and titles taken from him. It's hard to know what going on here.

What happened to the 'innocent until proven guilty' tenet? I think the various organisations just want to be distanced from this sort of sleaze - although goodness knows they have more than enough sleaze of their own!

@Fleura I feel most upset for the poor old Queen. She really doesn't deserve all this.

I don't understand either, but royals have been behaving badly for generations. And I just heard on the BBC World News, that he can't use the HRH designation anymore, that he's just an ordinary citizen now (or something like that). It also shocked me to learn that he's 61 years old. I guess I was thinking of the royal grandsons...

I am so glad that I finally find someone who shares my point of view. Virginia was not an innocent girl who did not know what she was doing. She says she was abused, Andrew denies and during 20 years she said nothing. Of course in Europe she could not even sue anyone after 20 years and without serious evidence. This photo clearly shows how happy she was to be with Andrew.
