Plum-hazelnut and chocolate cake

This is the first cake to go into my new tin! I have been working my way through stores in my freezer. I hate having a freezer full of nameless things, so normally I’m very organised and keep a list of everything that’s in there, stuck on the outside. But every now and then something slips though the net, often when we have a lot of something to put away. And so the other day when looking for something specific I found two bonus bags of our home-grown plums! I remembered trying out this recipe once before and liking it, so opted to make it again. It is delicious! I definitely recommend it if you want something a bit different to a regular fruit cake. And of course you can have chocolate cake with the added benefit of quite a lot of fruit! https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/plum-hazelnut-chocolate-cake All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2022.

It is very good, I recommend the recipe if you have some nice ripe plums!

The cake looks and sounds delicious. Plums are not in season here currently, so I would have to wait until then to try out your recipe suggestion, but I just may do that when the time comes-thank you.

@Juliaacv Hopefully you will access to lots of lovely ripe fruit in summer - supermarket plums are not at all the same.

I hadn't realised that baking was a British tradition.

@Fleura I think the thing that is known to be 'cake' with all its numerous varieties originated in the British Isles. And where there is cake, there is surely baking involved.

My partner spent ages pitting all the plums last summer before we froze them. He's good at those tedious jobs!

@fleura That just looks so satisfying. I see you’ve already had a slice. Such a relief to have a suitable tin to put it in, though I suspect it won’t sit there too long.

It looks delicious! I only have the freezer with my fridge. It's small, so I know everything that's in it.

That's all you need. We mainly have a bigger freezer to store garden produce.

If it tastes as good as it looks, then it would be fantastic. Thanks for the recipe. I've kept the link.

Definitely recommended! I have to say that all the recipes I've tried from BBC Good Food have been excellent. But there's also a BBC Food site which is separate and not as good so be careful, I avoid that now.

Best when you have guests because then it will be eaten while it is fresh and at its best.
