Thanks to everyone for the kind words after my explanation of the jaunt to the ER the other day. I wish they gave frequent flyer miles for the VA hospital so I could spend a week in Key West. Meanwhile….MUSIC! Sorry, country music loathers, lots of country around this countdown of songs with “kiss” in the title…..like this song. Candy Kisses - George Morgan For you younger country music fans, this is Lorrie Morgan’s dad. Now, I’ll tell you something: while I like this song, I have an issue with George Morgan’s induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. I asked my dad once if he remembered George Morgan having any major success or popularity in the 50s (the decade before I was born). He thought about it, then said, “No. The only song I ever remember him having a hit with was ‘Candy Kisses.’” “There was also ‘Almost,’” I added. “Oh, yeah, I forgot that one.” Now, I get my country music geekdom from my dad, so if he didn’t remember this guy being a huge name in the era of Lefty, Hank, Marty, Carl, Ray, et. al., then my reading of the Whitburn was essentially correct. Morgan didn’t have much of a major career or impact/influence that would warrant his induction. But I’m sure there are lots of historians who’d be happy to show me I’m wrong. And I probably am, but I just haven’t read that he had a hall of fame-worth career. Did you want to hear any of that? No. And, if you don’t like country music, you probably don’t want to hear the song, either. Oh, but it’s a great tune, no disputing that fact.
