Big project

Yesterday Dale and I tackled our guest bedroom which we still call Nathan's room. After Nathan went to live with his dad, our son Robert, about six years ago, the room has become a repository for many things. Luckily we were both in a throwing away mood and got rid of a lot of stuff. Some things went to the trash and some will be donated to the Salvation Army. It feels so good to be able to get to things in the closet! Next I want to replace the comforter and bed skirt on that bed. I did that a couple of years ago, but Nathan wanted the old one back on. I guess it reminded him of his childhood with us. But there's only so many times you can sew and repair a bed skirt and bedspread, lol.

I'm pretty much a "keeper", not a hoarder, lol, but even I have to declutter once in a while!

@LindaOHio And do you find that as soon as you get rid of something, you actually needed it? I'm more of the nostalgic type that keeps every card I've ever received. Well, that's a slight exaggeration.

I commend you for tackling a big job like that. After I finish the dishes, am going to work on this closet in the living room.

@1creekgirl I started on my living room closet...anyone want a tote bag?? Good Lord there must have been 10 in there. No excuse for not having one in the car for groceries, next time I go out I am going to put 3 or 4 in there.

@snowy22315 I've always had a thing for tote bags, too. I gave several to the Salvation Army this week. I should put a couple in the car like you said.

I remember doing that to a bedroom that we had earmarked for our niece, who stayed with us often when her parents first divorced. I couldn't let my hubby call a painter in, she asked my hubby to paint it bubble gum pink when she was about 3 years old, and when we moved out, it was still that colour. Some things should never be changed by us. The next owner could do with it what they want.

I need to replace the bed skirt on my bed. I bought the comforter I'm using last year when it was on sale but they didn't have the matching bed skirt.

@1creekgirl When I got divorced from my second wife, I decorated my bedroom in forest green. When we moved three years ago we used my forest green curtains from the other house in the living room here and I put up some old dark blue curtains we had from years ago. The bedspread I bought last year is also dark blue but the bed skirt is the forest green. It doesn't bother me that it doesn't match but female friends who've made it that far into the house tease me about it not matching. *shrug*

I can't remember how many times I've repaired that bed skirt. Nathan's always been sentimental, maybe because of losing his mama when he was a baby. Our granddaughter wanted that bedroom to stay like it was when she was little, but we redecorated when Nathan came to live with us.

@DaddyEvil I really don't care if someone else doesn't like what I like. If it pleases me, it's perfect. Besides, blue and green often look good together.

My relatives and myself engage in getting rid of clothing and items that are not needed in the home from time to time.

@1creekgirl That is true since the clothes do get old and need to be replaced.

When Leo passed away in September I donated all his clothes and other stuff to a thrift store. I knew Leo would want someone to have use anything of his possible. He was a kind giving man who did so much for everyone around him.

That's good that you're able to do some cleaning up. In my case, I haven't started yet, I'm so lazy to do anything, but surf online and watch movies. Enjoy the rest of your day.

It's good to get a big project done. I agree, you can only repair something so many times before you need to replace it.
