Can you believe this one? In London, Kentucky a man who was pardoned by a former governor is going to return to prison to live out his 42-year sentence for the same crime. Last year(2021) Patrick Baker was convicted of crimes involving murder. He had been out of prison since 2019. It was later learned that the Baker family had ties to the former governor, Matt Bevin. Baker was facing a maximum of life in the murder that took place during a drug trafficking crime. Read on about it here:

No. He was prosecuted the second time by the Federal Government. The first time his case was brought to trial under his state government. Since that prosecution was forgiven, the Federal Government is allowed to bring new charges since he also broke Federal laws by killing the man. (His family shouldn't have been able to get him released from the 19 year sentence he was serving but, since they were friends with the state Governor, they pushed him to pardon the man for the crime.) After he was convicted again, the new judge passed a 42 year sentence on him. The guy would have been better off staying in prison the first time.

@PhredWreck I can't believe he/his family thought that would work.

No. He was guilty and the Feds had to step in.

He should never have been pardoned. Not if he really is guilty of the murder.

Bevin must be patting himself on the back. I hope something is coming down the line for him.

Matt Bevin was a jerk of a governor. I’m not one who ignores my civic voting duty, but I certainly skipped the governor’s election last time, because we had an buffoon and an idiot as our two choices. The guy should never have been released. And I’m of the opinion that Bevin should be sharing the cell with him for letting him out in the first place.

No good choice, huh? Yes, I think Bevin should get something for his part in it. Maybe that is in the works now.
