Well what do you know about that?

After a special session of our school board we are shutting down our school district until January 24th. So many students are out, sick. So many of our teachers and paraprofessioals and aides are out sick. We have no substitutes available. I have personal days and sick days to cover these three extra days off. I get to stay home where it is warm. I get to sleep in. Even Hillsboro, where we take other kids, says not to bring them to school until Tuesday. They do not want our germs. Maybe I will even catch up here.

Oh yes, I went back to bed this morning and had quite an interesting dream. I am enjoying the fact I am missing some really cold weather.

@GardenGerty All of us (the grown ups) were worried because we did not see him studying as we used to. But apparently things are different now.

Good luck with the catch up game. A lot of people getting sick right and left. And, of course... COVID is to blame. Have we forgotten about the common cold or the flu?

We have testing available on site. Yes, we have positive cases of the cold. We had a lot of flu before Christmas, we have stomach virus now with kids throwing up explosively. We know it is not necessarily all corona. Even so, our teachers and staff are sick and we cannot run a school without them. We cannot teach students who are too ill to be here.

@GardenGerty Yes, I know. I'm not saying that. I've been hearing about it all over the country, kids and adults getting sick. It happens. Winter is the worst time for it.

I hope you enjoy your extra days off. I hope three days is enough to break the chain of illnesses there.

When you count in the weekend it is five days. It will depend on how people choose to use it. Our school nurse said earlier this week she saw kids we had sent home that tested positive out in stores, without masks!

I have not heard which varieties we have, but I would guess it is Omicron.

No, we are all just recovering. We would not have enough staff to do school remotely at this time. My particular duties cannot be done from home.

Same situation here. Everyone’s joking that if you’re not sick (or haven’t been sick) then you must be an alien

I suspect I had it before we ever acknowledged it was in the United States. I have not been sick since then until I caught a cold from my daughter that would not go away. I was tested three times and I was negative for all the nasties, covid, RSV, Strep, Mono, flu. I had a common cold, with allergies. Healthy again since October.

And everything else as well. People were so covid fatigued they quit taking precautions and traveled and socialized and did not social distance or wear masks. They are sick with covid, flu, gastro enteritis and who knows what else. We are having major staffing issues. We are having ball tournaments and school activities and that contributes as well.

@GardenGerty Doctors and nurses are So worn out from long hours and crowded hospitals some are leaving the profession. Who knows what’s going to happen? Everyone should take every precaution.

My husband is mostly old, not so much sick. In fact he is doing well. I am well, the cats are well. That is all we have at home.

Yes, I do, and I find myself wondering if they will extend the school year because we have missed six days already this year. They usually build in three surplus days. I know that winter, and bad weather, are not over with yet.
