Thirty Servings of Fresh Fruit and Vegetables

United States
January 23, 2022 8:49pm CST
I found an article that said if you eat 30 servings of fresh fruit and veggies, you will be healthier and lose weight over the course of a year. I have been keeping track this week and I am at 31 today and I started on Tuesday so I made it with 1 day to spare. Tomorrow I will go over the 30. I don't think that's true though about losing weight. You could eat that many fresh fruit and veggies but also eat a lot of carbs and red meat or pork, and sweet desserts and if you do that, in spite of the 30 servings of fresh fruits and veggies, you aren't going to lose weight! Do you think you eat 30 servings of fresh fruit and vegetables a week?

I don't think so. I also don't believe in thease fad diets that tell you to drop something, starve yourself, or any number of things. We need a balanced diet, and for many of us, we can eat what we want, as long as we balance it out with physical activity.

I think I'm more than that, because I really like to eat fruit, watermelon, pineapple, mango, papaya, rambutan, mangosteen, banana, avocado, that's what I often eat every day

@Faster16 Good for you. Two of those that you mention, rambutan and mangosteen are 2 fruits that I have never heard of.

@Kouponkaren it's a typical fruit of our country, maybe not in your country

Thirty servings in a week? I think we always do, some weeks even more than that. I think that you also have to reduce sugar fats and carbs in order to lose weight.

@Kouponkaren - We always have fruits with breakfast in the morning and usually also a fruit as a snack, but always at least two vegetables with our meals and fruits as dessert. Some fruits are very rich in calories and those surely do not help to lose weight (bananas, mangoes, grapes, avocados, beans and peas, corn...

@LadyDuck I am not sure if I would actually have hit 30 without the motivation that I was tracking it. Although I do try to eat healthily, 30 servings of fresh fruits and veggies is a lot. Good for you though if you already do it.

@Kouponkaren I seldom track things, I feel it takes the spontaneous joy out of it

@Ronrybs I challenge you to track how many fruits and vegetables you eat in one week. Do you want to try it just for fun? I am up to 37 for this past week.

Good luck. I hope you will be succe in losing your weight. I don’t like counting the food or calories that I eat. That would not be fun,

@Kouponkaren That is a good plan.

@thelme55 I don't like doing that either. But I will do it until I get to the weight I want to be at, and then I will just maintain it so I don't have to count anything anymore.

No, not in a week. I'm making apple fritters tomorrow morning, though.

I would have to count them up like you did for each day! Just thinking about it, I would think that I would come up short. Who knows?!!

@Kouponkaren If you think about it, 5 servings a day will have you more than on track. I have to admit that we eat more vegetables here than fruit...except when the satsumas come in. Then we have more than we need!!

@kareng Yes, I wasn't sure about my total either. I do think trying to keep track of them encouraged me to eat more fresh fruit and veggies.

I only eat half that amount. Sometimes less. The only way I could double my intake would be the fruits and veggies threatened to go bad. I have never been on a diet in my life lol.

@Kouponkaren A doctor said one time that I needed to cut back on coffee. I got a new doctor. No time for nonsense like that

@Vikingswest1 Well, if you haven't needed to go on a diet, then you are very fortunate. I have been on many diets over my lifetime. Some worked, some did not.

@wolfgirl569 Right. Although I do think eating that many servings of fresh fruit and veggies is a good thing for our bodies.

No way. I can't eat raw veggies or fruits that are hard to digest.

@1creekgirl Oh they can be cooked, or steamed, but need to be fresh, so not canned...canned things usually have too much salt.

I think eating fresh fruits and vegetables will make you healthier but I don't know if it will help you lose weight. Maybe if you are replacing fruit for cookies, cakes, etc it might help with weight loss. Moderation is the key along with drinking water.

I would like to eat 30 servings of fresh fruit and vegetables myself to lose weight. I have to settle with drinking water at this time.
