Well, the damage has been done. They got all the work done in one day, so I didn’t have to get up early for them. I did have to get up early for the semi-annual dermatology appointment, but that’s it for a while. What is not over (other than the payments on the work on the house ) is this countdown toward Valentine’s Day, featuring songs with “kiss” in the title. Oh, if you’re thinking I missed a song, remember I’m doing 20 in alphabetical order then my top ten. So stay tuned……
Kisses Sweeter Than Wine - Jimmie Rodgers
There are lots of single names for multiple people in music. Two Jimmie Rodgers included. This is the pop one. The other Jimmie Rodgers is the legendary “Father of Country Music” who has had his songs recorded by everyone from the Cramps in punk to Lynyrd Skynyrd in rock to Dolly Parton in country to Bill Monroe in bluegrass.
This is not that Jimmie Rodgers. Although this one had a nice career, it was definitely NOT the influence of America’s Blue Yodeler.
Here we have one of Rodgers’ biggest hits, and a lesson: I had no idea that Pete Seeger had a hand in this song. It has a long history, beginning as an Irish folk song, then adapted by the legendary Leadbelly. Then Seeger and Lee Hays of the Weavers turned all of that into this love song. Rodgers’ version was the follow-up to his biggest hit, “Honeycomb.”
Definitely some music to take you back to the 50s (or maybe there for the first time!).

Traditional, adapted by Pete Seeger and Lee Hays
Recorded by Jimmie Rodgers
Released as a single, 1957
Well I’d do it all again:
It's hard to call Jimmie F. Rodgers (no relation to country great Jimmie Rodgers) a rock & roller, exactly, but much of the rock audience listened to him and...

I remember this one well. I feel your pain about the work you had done. Our waterproofing/foundation work on the other house was $19,950. Ouch!

I can understand the expense, even as the person paying it. There’s about two feet of space under there for clearance, and they have to work down there in that!!???? It’s not like they’re painting the house where they can stand up straight. I’m thankful there are people who will do that job, and I hope a lot of that money I’m paying goes to them and their families!
