I am not a fan of winter, so I decided to put together a music trivia quiz to reflect my view towards snow, ice and cold. And what better way to escape those winter blues than to get away from it all and go someplace warm or just different. Yes, nothing like exploring another place whether real or imagined taking your mind off where you are... in my case the northeastern U.S.A. With the arrival of recent frigid temperatures and snowfall in my area I'm still going with "island" hopping songs. I may not be warm, but I can imagine I'm sitting on the beach with a tropical drink in hand. So, let's drop anchor and see what songs and artists we can find... Here's another tune by Loggins & Messina called "Vahevala," a song with a breezy sound to put our minds at ease. A terrific "live version" with an island beat! Give it a listen you'll enjoy it... Alright, time to work on those tan lines while solving today's quiz. (Remember words in quotations can provide hints to the music trivia answers) Whodunnit- Name those songs and artists: 1. This tune was recorded by a "singer" who made "Memphis, Tennessee" his home. The song was featured on both the "1961 soundtrack," and in the "movie this King of Rock n' Roll" starred in. Any movie starring this artist, and he made many "during the 60's," featured songs by this "actor/musician." This particular tune was sung about the "Aloha state" and the "color of the surf" there. Here are some more facts about this artist: he had a stillborn twin brother, he was drafted into the army in 1958, he has a fondness for peanut butter and banana sandwiches. -Do you know this tender loving singer and his movie-titled song? 2. This song is about a fictional place named after "a drink." Its "location" may be near "Key West, Florida," the home of the artist who recorded this tune. The story line has the singer "losing his flip- flop when stepping on a beer can top" while coming home from a bar. And while he is getting "wasted away" he discovers his "saltshaker is missing." No way to "enjoy a drink!" Anyway, this song about a "carefree island lifestyle" became a big hit for this artist in 1977. This singer describes his music as "drunken Caribbean rock 'n' roll." His fans go by the nickname Parrotheads. Another one of this artists hit songs was called "Cheeseburger in Paradise." A nice food item to enjoy while longing on the beach. -Do you know this artist with the "laid-back persona and his "tropical" sounding song? 3. This song from 1978 was the biggest hit for this artist reaching #9 on the Billboard charts. The musician was an original member of the group "Spirit" who had a minor hit with the song "I Got A Line On You." This song is about enjoying a day of sunshine and fun out on some "land surrounded by water" until a storm arrives. The "sky rumbled with ____________________" and lightning, soaking them in a downpour of rain. Now just fill in the blank and add it together with today's song theme, a "tropical ___________" and you have the song title! Here are a few more artist facts. Before venturing on a solo career this singer left "Spirit" to form a band named "Jo Jo Gunne" with bassist Mark Andes. After an uneven solo career this artist decided to become a soundtrack composer for movies and television. To his credit this musician wrote the recognizable composition theme to the NBC-TV version of The Office, which won him the 2007 Film & TV Music Award for Best Score for a Comedy Television Program. -Do you have any clue who this artist might be and the name of the "island" song he recorded? Ok, let's "not leave our island paradise" without figuring out these song and artist answers. If you're stuck and need additional hints just let me know in your response. Or as Billy Swan would say, "I Can Help." Thanks for reading and responding to my music post!!! I will return with a new music trivia edition in 2 weeks. Hope you can wait till then, lol. Stay tuned... Source- Wikipedia & songfacts.com

1. Aloha!!! I’m never blue when that truck driver from Tupelo makes an appearance, in Hawaii or anywhere else! 2. Gee, how on this earth do you limit him to one drink and one exotic location?? He said he could use a Bloody Mary so he stumbled next door to the bar in “Trying to Reason With Hurricane Season.” Who knew you could get a Bloody Mary in Margaritaville? (PS: I met Buffett twice, and he’s as nice and down-to-earth as you’d imagine!) 3. You forgot to mention that Joe Walsh played slide guitar out there on Thunder Island! I’ve used Mr. Ferguson a couple of times, including in the “not-one-hit-wonder acts that you think ARE one-hit-wonders.” In 1979 he had a “Shakedown Cruise”….that obviously made its first stop at Thunder Island.

#1 -Fun fact: Der Bingle, Bing Crosby recorded the original version of this "island" Hawaiian song. Very cool! Did you bring your Parrot Head? Saw him in concert, a great fun time show! Now, being "marooned on an island" with Jimmy and his band would be a terrific way to wait to be rescued Thanks for the additional trivia on Jay and Joe May the musical "Spriit" be with you always

As Meatloaf (RIP) would say...2 out of 3 ain't bad! You avoided being "stranded on an island." #3- What usually will accompany lightning in a rainstorm? ___________________. Being on a tropical ______________ is a great place to be during the winter. Put the two together and you have the song #3- Fun fact: This artist, "Jay Ferguson" collaborated with his old friend Eagles member and former founder of the band James Gang, Joe Walsh, who played all the slide guitar on this track

@rebelann FYI: They can be played in a few different ways. Joe probably played it like the photo. Notice the tubing around his finger which makes the unique guitar sound. Now you learned something new
