Introduction... Again

Portugal
January 30, 2022 8:24am CST
I've deleted my first introduction a few days ago, as my social anxiety skyrocketed as usual. I've also noticed how lovely and highly intellectual this community is, and I know myself well enough that my words would probably stain this place. And it's not just the ADHD and being an antisocial introvert either. To top that off, I thought I was recovering from Covid just fine, until... I've lost my speech. I started getting these weird migraines and then at some point when my husband asked what's wrong, I couldn't answer the question. I had to type it down. There's nothing wrong with my voice, I just find myself unable to find the words, form the sentence and speak it out. When I do try to do that, my migraines come back at full weight. I wish I could say that I blog and journal just fine, but now it takes me 4 times the effort and time to type something. Discussions back and forth are not my forte either. So when the admin asked me why I deleted my post, I mentioned my social anxiety disorder and asked if I could just read your lovely discussions instead, to which they said it was fine. But then someone sent me a message, said they noticed me but that I don't post anything, and they offered assistance, said message I could not reply, I got an error saying that "this user doesn't currently allow messages". So this is what this post is about. Basically replying to the private message through here. I'm sorry if this post doesn't make much sense, it hurt (my head) to type. Oh, the introduction: Special needs mom (autistic daughter and son with cured apraxia of speech). 35 years old. From Europe, an expat within Europe. Not at my right mind. Thanks.

Unfortunately some users don't seem to understand that although anyone can send a message, unless they (the original sender) have their preferences set to 'anyone can message me' they may not be able to get a reply back. If you need anything, just holler...might have to holler real loud because I may be in the next room.

No worries. And thank you. I've already gone through the Help section when I first got here, so I'll try to be mindful not to break any rules (hence why I didn't mention the person's username here).

@GoAskAlice - I think we should have a "warning" when we send a PM, if we changed the settings not to receive messages. Some users change the setting when they are annoyed by constant messaging and then they forget.

I'm a European, too. I'm not sure that I know what "an expat within Europe" is. Are you perhaps from the former Yugoslavia? Your impression that this community is 'highly intellectual' makes me laugh! Try as I may, I can't see anything intellectual - to say nothing about 'highly' intellectual - in topics on doing one's washing, going shopping or preparing a meal - to mention some of the favourite topics on this site.

@healerWitch My husband and I visited Portugal and the Greek part of Cyprus. We liked both countries. Cyprus is a good destination if you can speak English because so many people there speak it well. What is your native language? Is it Greek or Turkish?

I just saw your edited comment and I thought to respond to that. I do understand what you mean, I thought it was just the nature of this website (to post about the daily events in a casual manner) although the reason I followed you is that your posts stand out from the regular diary kind of posts. I found them to be educational. I guess after having horrific experiences in other social platforms (to which I no longer use), it seemed to me that they were all occupied by immature children, who can't even spell, and with the sole intent to do harm with their words as to make themselves look superior. The influencers themselves who are on social media for a living have been an utter disappointment as well. Mylot seems like a breath of fresh air compared to the "social warzones", which might take me some time to heal from.

Oh I could see what I said didn't make much sense. My apologies. I meant I'm from a different part of Europe than the place I'm in now. I'm from Cyprus, living in Portugal. I don't speak Portuguese well, and the memory loss lately has also affected my ability to speak my native language. English is the only one that I can still communicate in, probably because I practice it the most. But even that language skill is slowly getting worse. Nice to meet you.

Greetings from Texas. I saw you looked at one of my discussions and thought I'd check you out. I like what I see. Actually, if I didn't like what I saw, I wouldn't have responded. I'm currently kind of trapped in the house because we had an winter (read that ice) storm yesterday, (2-3-22) and I am not wanting to go out and slip on ice. Having said that, I do want to go out to the hospital to see my wife....

I'm so sorry! I changed the settings for messages last month when a new user kept attacking me through the private messages. I'm so used to letting anyone message me that I totally forgot to set it back when Admin deleted that user's account! (I've set it back to anyone can message me now.) I'm so glad you've introduced yourself again and hope you'll keep talking with us. For the most part this is a community of really nice people. I hope you enjoy it here.

Hello, I am also a European, I live in Switzerland but I am Italian. We have the possibility not to receive messages here. Some users send messages and they forget that they have decided not to get messages. It happened also to me. This is a nice community, but not intellectual, people are friendly and ready to help.
