Just in Time for the Winter Olympics

First, I ventured out to make my ophthalmologist appointment before the freezing rain arrived. Home now and it’s not quite freezing, yet. Most importantly, lol, the photo is of our precious Ice Princess. She and her family have been up at Lake Placid, New York for several days now for her figure skating competition. She is standing in front her hotel, and had been practicing on Mirror Lake. It was frozen solid, but rough to skate on. It’s a tradition with her. I got a sneak peak of her routine. She skated at 2 this afternoon. She placed, and her coach was thrilled with her performance. She’s considered a new Intermediate figure skater according to the United States Women’s Figure Skating Association. Tonight, she has another skate at 7 sharp! I’m a very nervous grammy.

Sometimes, I think it is worse for those watching and waiting than for those competing.

I agree. No word, yet, but the other grammy sent me another video of the first competition. Funny, but we are getting ready to watch the opening ceremony for the real Olympics.

Grateful for the update on the Ice Princess. The misses and I are watching the Opening Ceremonies and I thought about her and wondered how her skating was going.

Thank you! We are watching the opening ceremony, too, but unfortunately, our granddaughter doesn’t want to train 24/7 for the Olympics. She prefers summer camp. However, she loves skating and trains daily at Montclair College from 8:00 to 5:00. She does online schooling there, too, between practices and coaching.

Great accomplishments by your grand Daughter! But I could not relate the reference to the Winter Olympics. They are being held in China, right?

Thank you! She had a wonderful skate in the evening. The reference is that she is skating where the Winter Olympics took place years ago in New York. Her season opened the same time the Olympics opened in China.

Thanks! She was the only Intermediate who hasn’t learned the double axel, but did extremely well with her second skate.

Lol! Thanks for your kind wishes, but I doubt she’ll beat everyone by taking first place. She’s still a newbie to this level compared to the others. She still hasn’t been taught a double axel which is something to do during that level. Her sit spins and other jumps are super along with her artistry which help.

That's quite lot of snow in the background of the photo. I haven't seen a single snow flake during this winter season yet.

It’s upstate New York where the Winter Olympics were once held. Fortunately, it was mild enough for her to skate outdoors without bitter winds. You are so lucky. Is that unusual for Germany?

@DianneN Yes, it is unusual. The area where I live is sligtly hilly, and there are several ski lifts. None of them has moved yet during this winter season.

@DianneN That's a normal thing with kids as they mature into teenagers. They want to spend more time with their friends and doing fun things. Hopefully she'll power through that stage and continue with her skating career.

That is very true, but she crossed being in the Olympics off her list awhile ago. She’d rather have a normal life - high school, summer camp, friends, etc. However, she loves skating and will continue. She had a wonderful skate last night!!!

No, not in the Olympics at all. Every year, except for last year due to covid, she skates at Lake Placid, where once the Olympics was held. It’s where the figure skating season officially opens. She wore her old skates and Mirror Lake was completely frozen. Her family was right there with her. I agree with you. She said that the ice was bumpy in places and didn’t feel like “real” ice.
