Online Learning Day

There were some threats at one of the schools in the district, so all schools were online today (or at home). Not sure what school and what the threats were but that's just scary and sad. Since they didn't take devices home in preparation for an online day, the teacher gave assignments based on the weekly homework - reading the 1 minute story twice, writing spelling words three times, picking 5 of the words and writing a sentence using them. Oh, and the last set of math facts. Pretty easy work today - still has to do it since we left his papers at his grandma's since we didn't anticipate an at home day.

I understand certain situations (like a threat) that "warrant" at home learning. But I think this is something that is becoming too common, and I think it just provides more excuses for lazy teachers to not have to do their jobs. This needs to end. It's hurting the kids, and we are all going to pay for it eventually.

Yes, I can agree - for situations like this or a snow day staying at home and doing online learning is understandable. But in some situations it may be laziness. Last week was a whole week of online learning because there was a lack of bus drivers, as far as I know.

It does sound really easy, and should be for him since he is smart. He just doesn't like coming up with the sentences for each spelling word lol

It's good they are taking the threat seriously and adapting. It makes me feel better knowing that.

Yes that is good, for sure. I remember we had a bomb threat once when I was in high school. This is the 2nd incident since my son started school (first was when he was in Kindergarten I think)
