A Crappy Room in Davenport

Okay, so I had to switch from Kewanee, Illinois to Davenport, Iowa on my "Wisconsin" trip as I call it even though it runs through Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa.
I picked the Americinn on Kimberly Road in Davenport.
It's a dump. From the outside, to the hallways, to the room itself. It's a dump.
I should back up just a bit. Under normal circumstances I would call a room like this "sufficient." But there was one HUGE problem I had with this room. And it is a clincher. It's a big no-no. It is unacceptable.
No coffee maker.
At first I thought maybe they just forgot to put one in the room. But there was none of the usual coffee packets, creamers and straws (even if I never use the latter). That told me there is just not one offered here.
So, I went to a gas station and got some coffee there I can heat up in the morning in the microwave that is at least here. I can steep some if I need to from extra packets I have from other hotels.
But back to the drawing board for Davenport. I will not be staying at this location again.

I have a Keurig that I always take with me on trips. I can’t take the chance of waking up one morning without coffee

@porwest Yeah, those k-cups are expensive. I wait until I find good sale prices on them and then I stock up.

I am actually beginning to consider this. It would not be too much to do it really. And of course the coffee would be better. Those damn K-Cups are expensive as hell though. But better than having no coffee—even if I rarely, if ever, run into a problem not having a coffee pot in a room.

@moffittjc Even on sale they are 10x the cost of a regular can of coffee. But I won't knock people for wanting to use them.

I hate it when a place disappoints like that. Hopefully your next hotel will have coffee.

@porwest That reminds me of a trip when our son was little, many years ago. We drove too late to find a room and when we finally did, it was like the Bates Motel. There was a rough blanket on the bed with US Navy stamped on it. I refused to sleep under the covers and I think our baby son slept on me. A nightmare.

@1creekgirl Yikes. Yeah, that does not sound like a good place to stay at all. I never wait until the last minute to get hotel rooms anymore. Trips are well planned and rooms booked prior to leaving the house. At least I know what I am going to get, or have at least a good idea.
I stay only at Wydham hotels; Super 8, Baymont Inn, Americinn, Microtel (never been to one of these), Days Inn (won't stay at these for reasons I won't mention here), La Quinta, Hawthorne Suites and others.

Did you know the new Tru Hotels by Hilton don’t have coffee makers in the room, either? They have a vat of it in the lobby, though. (Not enough room to get the vat into your room, though. A Tru may be as close as I ever get to a capsule hotel!)

That would never work for me. I prefer the convenience of not having to leave my room and having at least the BASIC amenities right there.
The only hotels that I have ever seen that purposely leave coffee pots out seem to be casino ones, especially in Vegas. I hate it.

@porwest — they want you OUT of the room there. If you go past the casino on your way to the lobby to get coffee maybe you’ll stop in for an hour or 20.

@FourWalls Well, of course. That's even why the rooms are so darn cheap. Still, I'd be happier to have a cup of coffee or two and be amped up and ready to push the bet buttons faster.

What are those cups for if there’s no coffee maker?
Did you inquire about the coffee maker?

@porwest It's not about complaining. Just to find out if they have one so you can make coffee.

@lovebuglena I figure if I have to ask... I just won't go back, and when the opportunity comes to leave my member review it won't be a good one.

Wow, no coffee maker. Harsh. Never been to a hotel where one didn't exist.

Now you know to avoid this place, A long time ago with no choice of where to stay wound up in a room so small that when you got up from bed you could run right into the wall,
