Into the top five we go in the countdown of my favorite songs with “poor” in the title. This is the song I believe that most people have been waiting for, given previous comments. You just have to be patient! Monday’s a gloomy day but this should improve the day. Here you go. #5: Poor Little Fool - Ricky Nelson In my last list of “songs you may not know were covers” I used “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” well-known by the Mamas and Papas. I pointed out that the original version was by Ozzie Nelson. (Not Ozzy, Mr. Nelson never bit the heads off bats. ) Or, Ricky’s dad. I also mentioned that, when The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet began as a TV series Ozzie was the star. Within a year, Ricky took over, thanks to the slew of hits he had. “Poor Little Fool” was Nelson’s first #1 hit. And, over 60 years later, it’s one of his greatest musical legacies.
