Mates

I was brought up around cats. We always had cats at granma's house when I was a youngster. I always had cats after I grew up and moved out on my own too. I have many stories I could tell(and have) about the little characters. (I love all animals but especially cats, elephants, bison, and goats.)
When you have a pet you and that animal have a repore. But, what about the hours they are away from you? I am very strong in the belief that all animals should have a mate. If we adopt an animal we need to be sure we can handle at least two of said animals. The animal needs to be able to communicate and do what is natural for that animal. Sure they are a good companion for us but what about their needs? They need companionship on their level too. Someone they can relate to, play with, and hang with besides us.
I hate to hear about one animal in a household. One cat. One dog. One turtle. How very sad. Even Noah had two of each on his ark. That was for procreating but, even then they had companionship. I am all for companionship. Friendship. Pals.
What are your thoughts on this issue?

You make a very strong case for multiple pet households. At one time our family had a cat and dog in the home. Companions they were not as the cat was there first and set in his ways. But on the other hand, my friend had a home with multiple cats from the same litter and they got along really well.
So, maybe it's a split decision

When I was young we had a cat and dog that were pals. One even attempted to save the other's life.
If animals grow up together they are more apt to get along.

It depends on the animal. My Bambi dog would have preferred to be the only dog in our family. While Jill doberman loves having her mom and dad here to play with her.

I don't know... some of us vahnt to be alone...
Harmony and her brother Hunter got along ok at Juanita's, and even after Hunter crossed the bridge, Harmony was ok by herself.
Then Juanita's daughter brought home a kitten.
Whell!
Harmony was none too pleased and showed her displeasure the way a cat will... Juanita was talking about taking her to the SPCA. I said I'd take her before she did that. Harmony heard me say so, and came over to my house and knocked on my door and said, "Honey, I'm home!"
And we were happy together, just the two of us, until the bridge beckoned her.

We have a kitten and an old gentleman cat here too. They do have their moments.

We only have one cat, because we're not even supposed to have one nevermind two but with my mental health issues we could get him. I dont think only one is sad, or bad. Animals do sleep when alone and know how to be on their own. Some even like being alone even with people or other animals around them.

My daughter's doctor wrote a note for housing and so she was able to get a cat. But, now we have three and they don't say anything.

I liked having two dogs. I felt that they could keep each other company when we were gone.

Right. And be able to do dog things together. I think animals need that as much as people.
