Political Talk: Russia-Ukraine standoff: Should United Nations (UN) be disbanded

Disclaimer : No intentional politically biased (left/right wing) opinion. Just personal opinion on a current issue. So do respond rationally. Mild criticism, different opinions are welcome. But nothing unwarranted! After a brief interval when Russia pulled back some of its troops from its borders with Ukraine, some recent developments like Russia declaring independent areas inside Ukraine and new troop buildup suggest an imminent war. Under such a scenario, some thoughts come regarding the validity and relevance of United Nations. Yes, a Multi National Organization that came into being after the horrendous and disastrous WWII and that was to be something that would provide for increased world peace. But somehow with this current standoff and other incidents across the world, it seems UN has lost its influence over the state of affairs in the world. I wonder can't the current UN Head convince Putin to find alternate peaceful means. Aren't UN sanctions, and other means available with UN effective any longer? Under such scenarios, wouldn't it be right if UN be disbanded? Or may be a new Multi-lateral body be formed that is somehow unbiased and more effective. And yes, not be headquartered in US or any major world power city! Opinions invited. Related Article Link :
Rest of World News: MOSCOW: A long-feared Russian invasion of Ukraine appeared to be imminent Monday, if not already underway, with Russian President Vladimir Putin order.

Putin will do whatever he wants, but will face consequences and shame. I'm all for the UN.

@DianneN But looks like UN does not have much influence even on the Permanent Security Council members- in this case Russia. Of course, I wonder what has consumed Putin's mind for him to become kind of reckless and expansionary!

@DianneN Or divide it and make it obedient as suited to Russia?

As it is right now UN is not showing to be very useful. Every leader tried to have a personal meeting with Putin, only now the NATO announces URGENT meeting with Ukraine envoy. It is still useful, but it is to slow to take action.

@LadyDuck Most trends indicate that we are moving closer to the senseless war!

@LadyDuck Something that is out of sync with the modern times. And this is something that even China is exploring and hence tensions on its borders.

@LadyDuck As I was discussing in a Forum on another site, Putin has even got the Russian Constitution amended in his favor. In fact Russia can be described as a "Dictated Democracy" or may be something similarly worded !

@JESSY3236 Yes very worrying indeed. More news about a likely invasion are coming in.

It is certainly very worrying at the moment. At times like these, I am especially glad that I live in Australia. And yes, the UN does seem to have lost any 'teeth' it might have had.

@JudyEv But if it escalates to a bigger war, Australian troops might also be involved!

@JudyEv Yes it would be a horrific situation anywhere near Russia or Ukraine.
