A short-sighted bee, maybe?

My husband, Vince, is a keen photographer and belongs to a number of online photo groups. In one of the groups, one member often puts up the most incredible photos of various types of bees. To me, a bee is a bee but it seems there is an amazing number of different bee species. Seeing so many spectacular bee photos has sparked Vince’s interest in photographing bees and insects so I’m sharing one of his recent photos here. However, I’m just not sure how many little bees wear glasses.

There are patterns and colours that seem totally wasted on tiny insects so it's only rarely that the intricate designs ever show up in photos.

@JudyEv - It is really an amazing photo. I do not think I have ever seen a bee so closely! Now, when I see a bee buzzing around the flowers here, I will wonder if they are wearing eyeglasses!

@DeborahDiane Some of the flowers are so brightly coloured, you'd think they'd need sunglasses. Now I'm wondering if they can squint.

I find bees fascinating, all those that we see are female and I've seen a variety of different sizes over the years. My favorite ones are the big black ones. Sadly there haven't been very many here over the last 2 or 3 years.

That is a great picture from Vince. I just thought there were honey bees and carpenter bees. Do yellow jackets, hornets and wasps count in the bee family?

I'm not sure about yellow jackets, etc. I've learnt that there are 1,700 species of Australian native bees. That's a LOT!! I know there are blue-banded bees, stingless bees and teddy bear bees among others.

I am very inspired by bees, these little creatures are many examples of goodness, they are food from the best sources and produce honey which is good for human health
