The popular Australian soap opera ‘Neighbours’ will cease production in June. Neighbours airs on Network Ten in Australia and Channel 5 in Britain. Maybe it is not known in other countries. Channel 5 is dropping the show and producers, Fremantle Media, have been unable to secure a replacement network. It has been in production for almost 37 years and there have been nearly 9,000 episodes.
When we were in England in 1998, we visited the souvenir shop at the Mews at Buckingham Palace. The young male attendant asked us something about two characters in the show as the episodes being shown in England were several years behind Australia.
We were unable to help as we never watched Neighbours and the young man was very disappointed. I often wish we had made something up for him.
Probably the most famous couple to have appeared in Neighbours was Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan. The highly-viewed screen wedding of their characters took place in 1987.
The photo was taken near the Mews in 1991.

For many years, we could only get the national station, not the commercial ones so we never got hooked like some people did. I might have watched an episode or two in the very early days but only because we were at someone else's place and they were watching it.

Reminds me of All My Children, ran from 1970-2011. Cancelled because of changing viewing patterns of audiences, is what an article said.

@oahuwriter This is one show that we did watch quite often. We often joked that there were so many murders that there couldn't be anyone left in the village!

Indeed. I was reading about, Midsomer Murders, which I stumbled upon one day. Situated in a fictitious place, at Britain. It's been a long running series. John Nettles retired, and
Jason Hughes needed a change. First aired in 1998, still going strong.

I saw that article..wow such a long running show.
And I wonder if it is as long running as those two English shows, Coronation St and East Enders.

Most of the soap operas I remember being on TV are gone now here in America, too. Every now and then I have to check to see if Coronation Street is still going in England!

That’s probably it. “Didn’t I just see three friends going through the exact thing two weeks ago on Facebook??”

@FourWalls There seems to be equally as much drama on there from time to time.

That's sad when a beloved show comes to an end. It reminds me of a Soap Opera here in the States that went on for decades and there was a time when my mom, sister and I watch it. In the past 5 or so years, it was cancelled. It was called "All My Children".

All My Children is a famous soap opera in the United States, that's still going. Another one, Days of Our Lives was on television for many years, I'm not sure if it's still being filmed. Some people eat these episodes up like candy, I never do.

I haven’t watched soaps in several decades. It seems that many have ended here too.

That was/is really popular too. I don't watch any of them so I don't even know if it's still going.
