Do You Follow A Routine Every Day?

United States
March 6, 2022 12:49pm CST
Do you go to bed or have meals at the same times every day? Is your schedule set in stone? When I was working every day, you could have set your clocks by my schedule. I did the same things in the same order every day with very few exceptions. Now that I'm not working, I don't really have that schedule anymore. There are still some of the same things done at the normal times but for the most part, I don't have a set schedule. Do you have a routine and keep to it?

No routine here. I go to sleep when I want and wake up when I want. It is good to be retired.

I wake up and let dogs out first thing then make coffee but after that, there is no rhyme or reason for the rest of the day. It IS good to be retired

@jstory07 Pets can be pretty demanding if you don't keep to THEIR schedule lol.

I don't recall ever having a set routine - even my job as a reporter meant sudden assignments, deadlines, I couldn't really plan. However l am more settled now and my morning ritual is the same each day.

That's the thing, I had such a set routine for so many years, when I stopped working, the routine was tossed aside. I guess I have a normal morning routine after I wake up but sometimes I wake up at 6am and other times, I'll sleep until 10.

The only thing I do "on schedule" is wake my fishies up and feed them at 6 am.

I take care of dogs first thing and then play it by ear the rest of the day. I make meals when my wife gets hungry. It's not always the same times during the day. Dinner can be anywhere between 4-8pm.

@DaddyEvil I have been known to make something at 2am but I hate waking up just to make food. If I'm up, fine but if I get woken to make something, I get irritated.

@Vikingswest1 I usually go to bed after feeding my fishies. When I wake up around 2 pm, I ask Pretty if she's hungry. If she is, I'll fix something to eat. If she isn't, I wait until she asks what I'm making to eat. *shrug* Our supper time can be anywhere from 11 pm to 2 am.

I'm retired. One of the pleasures is for me that I do not have to follow a fixed schedule.

I almost think it's better to have some sort of routine if for no other reason than to keep my body clock working properly. I used to have a schedule that was demanding and couldn't be altered. Now I don't. It's odd to me still that I don't have to keep a schedule.

@Courtlynn A routine can train your body for the most part. It may not be the same for everyone though.

@Vikingswest1 my body doesn't listen to me regardless if i try to have a routine or not lol and cant tell your body when to be or not be hungry to schedule meals or snacks imo.

Pretty much groundhog day here. But it does depend on the time of year. A lot of time is spent in the yard in the spring. Gotta make sure these cats are fed and litter boxes are clean before anyhow else!

I used to be that way but over the past few years, it changed. I still have a routine of necessary things but times aren't set in stone.

@CarolDM The peace and quiet times here are very few. My wife is disabled and I have to manage everything. I have a 15 year old dog that needs special care too. It seems sometimes I'm always making sure everyone else is happy and fed. After all the chores are done and everyone is down for the night, I get some of that peace and quiet.

At least you go to bed at the same time. I don't and it sure messes up my body clock. Most everything here depends on my wife's needs and wants.

I usually get up around 11 o'clock in the morning to take out the trash, clean up the cat litter, feed the cats and give them something to drink before taking a shower, get my teeth brushed and go to work with the computer around noon.

Yes, I'm a very scheduled person, try to do the same thing each day. Yet Jay is very disorganized, time means nothing to him. I find this opposition is changing my schedule, quite often. At bedtime, I clean up and go to bed. This is one thing that probably won't ever change. Staying up late, I fall asleep on the couch.

I think that my wife has changed my schedule too. She is disabled and because I care for her, everything is on her schedule. I wish sometimes that I could be more organized. I may be in bed as early as 9pm one day and stay up until 3am another.

When I was working, I didn't even need an alarm clock, just like you but it's different now. I don't go to bed at the same time every night which means I won't wake at the same time. I miss that part of my once normal routine.

Yes and no . The outside forces make the stone schedule what it is . . . like Hubby's work time and kids' school times. I do wake up early and our home meals are generally around the same time (though not always). Weekdays are more routine than the weekends. But in between the routines, being a stay at home mom keeps me flexible. I get this and that done whenever I can fit it in. I might even get some myLot time in .

@Vikingswest1 I guess they say routine is good - humans like "structured" time. It's "predictable" in a good way. But I also like to change things up from time to time - otherwise I go nuts. If not work, it's good to be "working" on something anyway. Right - a mom is a mom no matter what time of day - or night!

I was a creature of habit for many years. I followed the same routine. When things changed, a new routine started. When I stopped working, the routines stopped. It's definitely better to have some sort of schedule for me. I may have to get things back in order soon. The problem with being a stay at home mom is you're on call 24/7.

My routine is wake up at 7pm, eat dinner, play mobile games after, take a nap when I can, wake up at 12:30 am, work at 1 am, end work 10 am, cook food, eat lunch, I usually skip breakfast because in between my work, I snack, then sleep at 12nn. Repeat the cycle. From 10 am to 12 nn if scheduled to go to school to submit my nephews and niece worksheets, that's my time window. So if I am not here, I am doing that. Today is my day off

Most of the time yes. I usually get up at 9.00am, except Tuesdays I get up at 8.00am because usually go to the little Tesco on a Tuesday, 8.00am on a Friday if I'm going shopping down town, I have a lie in on a Saturday til 10.00am and I get up at 7.00am, or 7.30am on Sunday to go to Church. And mealtimes are usually at set times too. Every morning I have my breakfast half an hour after I have my tablets, lunch is usually midday, dinner or tea at 5.00pm, and then drink of grain coffee at 9.00pm, ready for bed. I usually go to bed at 10.00pm, and then watch a bit of Doctor Who before going to sleep, except if there's anything special on TV, like an Andre Rieu concert, or Comic Relief or anything else that's on that I want to watch. I stay up if Vera is on, or The John Bishop Show, something like that.

I haven't watched Dr Who in many years. I would imagine that all the characters are different from the 1990's shows I liked. It sounds like you have a routine and stick to it. I wish I could plan out my days like that.

@Vikingswest1 Dr Who was cancelled in 1989, came back for one TV movie in 1996 and came back in 2005 and has continued ever since. The lead character changes approx every 3 years. There have been exceptions. The third doctor stayed for a bit longer and the fourth doctor stayed for a lot longer while the ninth doctor only stayed for one year. Companions change often too, they mostly stay for shorter periods of time than the doctors.
