Looking for a New Dentist

When we moved here 27 years ago, we went through the ordeal of finding a doctor, a dentist, a hairdresser, and a barber, and all those things one must do upon settling in a new city. We were lucky and found a great dental practice right away and stayed with them for 20 years. Then, the dentists who owned the practice started retiring. Eventually, the practice was bought out by a chain operation that practices factory-style dentistry. We were not happy. Hygienists were assigned randomly. You never knew which dentist you might see. They fired or retired all the receptionists and office staff we knew and trusted. Still, we stuck with them until the pandemic. I haven't been to see them since the spring of 2020. Thankfully, I've had no problems. Now. though, I realize it's time to at least go in and get things checked. So, one of my "honey-do" list items for today is finding a new dentist. Our school has a Bishop's Holiday today. That's why I am home and glaring at a honey-do list in the first place. As soon as K heard I had today off, she decided to make sure I wouldn't have a chance to enjoy myself or make any plans of my own. Alas, such is life. I hope you all enjoy today more than I will.

I don't mind going to the dentist's. It was the way the other practice conducted business that bothered me.

Hope you find a good dentist! We went through the kids' pediatrician retiring suddenly when the pandemic "started" - we're still looking for a good "new" one. Wish I could recommend you our dentist - 2 of my friends started going to her and really like her. Get that list done asap and then you can go out and play .

I appreciate the referral, but I might have trouble making it to the appointments.

I don’t know how much stock you put in online reviews, but that might be a place to look for a new dentist. I tend to do what they do in the Olympics scoring: throw out the worst review and the best review, then see what I have. Good luck.

@DWDavis — great! That’s the problem with living in Kentucky: most people don’t have teeth.

That's a great idea. Fortunately, my friend who is also my principal gave me the name of her dentist and his practice is highly rated.

"I too dislike factory style dentistry. My regular dentist is a Chinese doctor, who has a personal style. His father was an unsmiling man but the son is lovable in his service.

I hope you find a good dentist. It is hard when they retire and you have to get a new one.

We went through all this in May when we moved but thankfully are now settled in again with practices we like and trust.

Thankfully my dentist, while a chain, is local and I've always seen the same dentist. At the start of the pandemic there was a bit of gap in seeing the dentist, but it has gotten more regular this last year

I need to find a new dentist that takes the insurance we have. Our old one dropped our insurance.

Yes, doctor, dentist, and hairdresser, you like are comfortable with, and is efficient in their job is a must. I've tried a few different dentists before finding one for me. Same with hairdressers and doctors. I hope they never retire.

Most of the eye doctors in our area have gone that way. Thankfully our Dentist has not...however it's a single dentist practice, and he will eventually retire.

We switched eye doctors a few years ago after our original practice go to the point where we never saw the same person two visits in a row. The clinic we go to now is owned by a family whose children I taught. They weren't taking on new patients but offered to take K and me after we got to talking about the issues I was having with the old place.
