Human nature

Is it human nature to always ask or know "what's in it for me?" in various instances? When someone asks us for a favor, do you always ask yourself, what's in it for you? Why? Will you do it even when you don't get anything back? Your thoughts?

It depends on who is asking me and what they're asking me. If it won't cost me very much, I'll help a complete stranger. If "help" is going to cost quite a bit of my time or money, then I'll help if it's a good friend asking me for the help.

That's a rational way of thinking. Yes, f course. It would depend on the circumstances.

@Jenaisle I'm not always rational, but I try.

It is just normal. I understand you. I also think what would I get. But helping first would be fun and fulfilling.

I will help if I can afford to do so, especially in terms of time. There were many times I overestimate myself and spent too much time in it and neglect other higher priority stuff. There were also times I spent much time helping friends, but they didn't really need it. Hence now I would try to see if the person really needs the help and if I have the time to do so. I don't mean I need my help to be appreciated, but I don't want to spend my time worthlessly.

If I reply this, what's in for me? Just kidding I mean, those who are money driven, tend to ask that question. I have a so-call-friend acting like that. So annoying.

You'll get to know me better. Anyway, it's true if friends only help you to get something out of it.

In a way, I do believe that it is. Humans aren't much different from animals-- in fact we are animals-- and we want instant everything. We don't like having our time wasted, and we don't like doing something for nothing. You might find the exceptions, but for the most part, we're a greedy race always wanting something for our efforts.

You're right, we're the highest form of animals. I see your point there.
