Luck be a lady today! And no, that Sinatra classic didn’t make my list of favorite songs with “luck” in the title. It was the last song cut, so if you find a song that’s not too “lucky” for you on this list, just substitute that one in your mind. Meanwhile, here’s today’s song.
#7: Ain’t I the Lucky One - Marty Robbins
Just how badly did rock and roll affect country music? They took “Mr. Teardrop,” Marty Robbins, shipped him off to New York City, hired Mitch Miller as a producer, and put the Ray Conniff singers behind him!
(A little trivia for you who are old enough to remember Carson on The Tonight Show: the band drummer, Ed Shaughnessy, was the drummer on this song’s session.) Oh, and there’s a little rock and roll guitar break in there, too.
I’m honestly anxious to see what our vehemently anti-country music buff Linda thinks of this one. Personally, I don’t think there’s a drop of country music in it anywhere, despite being by a country music legend.
But I do love the song.
Ain’t I the Lucky One
Written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David
Recorded by Marty Robbins
Released as a single, 1957

The only thing better than a Marty Robbins song is another Marty Robbins song!
