The Nixon $1 Bill

When I get change back, I don't always look closely at the bills. But sometimes I do, or something catches my eye that forces me to take a closer look.
I have a couple of bills I have kept, such as couple of $1 bills from the 1960s a $2 bill from 1976, and I have a 1950s $5 silver certificate my grandfather gave to me many years ago.
None of them are probably worth anything. But I still keep them anyway.
One of particular curiosity to me is one I received back in change several years ago that I still have. I call it the "Nixon bill."
I am pretty sure it is a genuine $1 bill, and that someone scratched away at the portrait of Washington, and put in its place a part of Nixon's portrait. The bill is very well altered as well.
It makes me wonder what the origin of the bill is.
Interestingly enough, the bill's series date is also 1969, the year that president Nixon was inaugurated.
There is nothing particularly interesting about it to me other than it was altered, and how well the attempt was to alter it. Is it even a real dollar? It appears so, but I am not sure.
But interesting as well is that it was around 2015 or 2016 that I received this bill in change, meaning it had been circulating around for at least 46 years before it found its way into my hand.
It is also in really good shape.

That's pretty cool. Interesting that you mentioned a 1976 $2 bill, because I also have one that was given to me by my grandmother. A $2 bill on our 200th anniversary. She told me to hold onto it. Is it worth anything? Probably not, but since grandma told me to keep it, I will keep it. Forever. lol

@TheHorse I have a Silver Eagle coin that someone gave to me when I was a kid that I still have in my top nightstand drawer. I don’t even remember who gave it to me or why I even still have it! Lol

Same here with a silver coin given to me by an old rancher friend in Montana. I can't even remember what the "denomination" was (is that the right word?), but I have it somewhere in my top desk drawer. I'll never part with it.

Under Biden it's probably worth 1.84, but who knows? lol. Definitely worth keeping. I will probably never get rid of my $5 silver certificate my grandfather gave me either, but rather just pass it down to one of my nieces or nephews.

It's interesting that the name still says Washington and not Nixon. Did someone take a real $1 and then somehow put Nixon's face on it or is this a fake?

So far as I can tell, no. It looks like the bill was printed this way from a counterfeit plate. There are other details I did not go into here, but did provide a link to The Horse in one of my comments below to my read.cash article where I said more about it.
It's a mystery where it came from, if more were printed (which I assume were) and what the purpose of it was.

Its interesting to me and I bet it could sell for a pretty penny to the right buyer. I had never heard of or even seen one.

I wonder if you tried to pass it if it would be good.

I would imagine it would. It got passed to me, and has apparently been in circulation for quite a few year...if the date is correct on it. I guess I would have to check some other parts of the bill to see if they match up like who was secretary of the treasury at the time etc.
