Into the top five with this look at the songwriting side of the great Shel Silverstein. As I’ve been reviewing the comments I’m sort of surprised to discover how many people didn’t know that he was a songwriter. But then, I’m a music geek. His name was on the first album I ever bought that my dad objected to (more on that when I get to that song/album in the countdown). Meanwhile, here’s today’s song. #5: Your Time’s Comin’ - Faron Young (Note to Linda: go to the “luck” song. This will cause a migraine. ) Oh, is this song loaded with great lines. I always loved that line, “You ain’t much but that don’t matter, nothing suits her better than a stranger, and the stranger man, the better.” Talk about a slap! And the funny thing is that, in the context of the song, the jilted man says it in front of the two-timing woman! Faron Young was a womanizer to the nth degree (I knew he was a womanizer before I even knew what the word meant!), so he probably was the antagonist in this song more than once and more than just in the context of this song.
