And that is sarcasm. In my usual Friday night routine I’d already taken my bath, had my Bible meditation, and enjoyed the evening. I thought I’d get in bed and relax and smooth my aching muscles (I fell a whopping 20 inches on Wednesday while putting new curtains up). Nope. All my weather geeky things started going off, notifying me that there was a tornado warning. In town. So much for relaxing those sore muscles. I got up and put my plan into action. That means hunkering down in the smallest, most interior part of my house (which is a cubby closet in the “hall,” although these old houses hardly have what you’d consider a “hall” in modern terminology), put my bicycle helmet on, and got my charged-up devices to watch. Thankfully, nothing happened in my part of town. Other areas, however, had winds measured at over 70 MPH, which caused power outages. Severe weather is a fact of life, regardless of where you live. We have our fair share here. Still, this is the first tornado warning in the city proper in quite a while. Being a weather geek, I can pretty much quote the “emergency plan” that they talk about during severe weather season. Basement (I don’t have one) or most interior space of the house, away from windows. Wear a helmet (80% of tornado fatalities come from blunt force trauma to the head) and hard-sole shoes (in case you have to walk over debris). I’m thankful I have a plan. When the alarm went off, I knew exactly what to do. I’m thankful, too, that it wasn’t necessary. And aren’t I cute in my bicycle helmet? It’s like lipstick on a pig, ain’t it!

It’s not the clothes hanging in the closet that make the woman, it’s the bicycle helmet!

I'm so glad you came through safe and sound. I'm a weather geek too; and I think all this wild weather is due to climate change.

I don’t totally agree. I think it’s nothing new (I found an article in a newspaper talking about how the earth was getting warmer, icebergs had completely disappeared, and seals were finding the Arctic Ocean too warm. The paper was dated November 1922.). So it’s cyclical. I’m not saying we don’t harm the earth or that all those bombs Russia is dropping are good for the environment, but this HAS happened before. In fact, the worst tornado in U.S. history happened in 1925. (Yesterday was the anniversary of it, the Tri-State tornado.)

@FourWalls That may be the case; but I think we will be facing a rise in the oceans which may obliterate cities like New Orleans, etc. I think the worst is yet to come. I guess we shall see. I do appreciate the information about the 1922 paper. Very interesting.

Maybe you should have stopped to put on some lipstick I never would have thought of putting on a bicycle helmet during a tornado warning, but I guess it makes sense, a lot of sense. I suppose if a person doesn't have a helmet, any hat would be better than nothing. Maybe wear a pot, too.

Baseball helmets for the kids, or football helmets, or motorcycle helmets, any sturdy covering for the head will do. And darn my luck I don’t have lipstick. When I want red lips I’ll eat spaghetti.

You look cute there hunkered down. Gee, I am sorry you are having such a time with the weather lately down there Glad it didnt come near you. Can you dig out a cellar somewhere? I mean after you soothe your muscles.. Sorry you fell also..never good .. It has been a rough year. I worry about my nephew there in Tennessee too..moved to get away from snow here in Colorado but the weather has been brutal down there, ice storms and power outages and so on.

I’ve thought about it (digging out a cellar). The house next to me had a man living in it when I first bought mine whose wife dig out their basement AND a fallout shelter. Harry said she did it by hand.

I'm glad you weren't affected. I knew about getting into the middle of the house but hadn't heard about the helmet protection. Thankfully, we never have such warnings here.

Thankful myself! The helmet protection is a newer notification, based on a lot of research.

Haha, I thought you were doing something cool like jumping out a plane. All good how I jump out of plane in my basement, except California does not have basements because ground likes to shake sometimes, but in garage with a bicycle helmet. Love the pic, made me smile.I tell everyone why I like the Marines they land animals, they lied to me about the boat part but learned they lie to everyone so that made me feel better.

The Marines didn’t tell you that they have to get our permission to board our ships! Jump out of a plane?? Are you goofy?? I can’t jump off a freaking chair without hurting myself!

@FourWalls Oh, trust they made clear to this really cool guy. You have to ask permission and then they going to haze you at equator, but we the Marines we are but you can''t swim they can and you out numbered 100 to 1 when we went to Australia. This guy was like you get to travel past equator how cool and so they volunteered him. We were like cool too and they said trust me its not. Navy beats Marines on Navy grounds.

Yer so adorable ............ I thank the Great Spirit every day that so far in the last 62 years there's never been a tornado here, long time residents like me wouldn't know what to do if we ever got one.

I'm glad the tornado stayed clear of your part of town. We're entering the severe storm part of the year here and then comes hurricane season.

You look very nice in your bicycle helmet! I'm glad you were kept safe, by your heavenly father:) Our dangerous season is coming, soon. We do have a hallway and helmets, that I never thought about putting on! Thanks, for this new tidbit of information, that could save my life:) You fell? That's terrible, I hope you're doing better each day
