Will Smith stormed the stage and smacked presenter Chris Rock in the face after he made a joke about his (Smith) wife's shaved head. She has a medical condition that causes hair loss. She shaved her hair off to deal with it and Chris Rock compared her to GI Jane. Today Will Smith apologized to Chris Rock via Instagram. He said that making fun of Jada's medical condition was too much but he was embarrassed at his behavior. I honestly wasn't expecting him to apologize out in public but good for him. The whole scene was awful and detracted from the entire Oscars ceremony.
Smith slapped Rock on the Oscars stage after the comedian made a joke at the expense of Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

It takes a strong man to own up to his mistakes or blunder. But knowing that Will Smith is a great actor, hmmm...well, no comment there. I guess actors make mistakes too. They are just human at the end of the day.

Except Rock told the same joke in rehearsal and Smith laughed. You would think that Smith would have called Rock out the first time he heard the joke. It might have been staged to create drama and bring attention to the awards ceremony that has been missing in recent years.

He smiled, laughed, and started to clap when Rock said it during the show too.

@NJChicaa I saw that too. I just think that there is more to this story.

Probably this is a good ending. People shall never mock others and make mean jokes.

It says something that he did apologize. Not always easy to do at times, but it does say something for him.

Well, getting news about it from all the platforms and each one has given their own analysis. Some felt that Chris Rock made a very insensitive joke and deserved this slap. Some even feel that it was all a part of publicity stunt to get the attention and each one was a part of it. All was orchestrated to get all the attention. Well, if that's the case, it's in a bad taste. Anway apology is good.

I have a lot to say about this incident, but I really am not so sure of my own opinion. Well, at least he apologized for what he had done to Chris. That's a good thing to know.

I guess it is just the right thing to do although his anger is somewhat justifiable but inappropriate that he resolves it a bit violent and scandalous. I think he just needs to control his anger when in those kinds of situations but I guess it has blown out of control because Chris has made his jokes a bit hurtful and demeaning especially when the person you are making fun of is there in front of everyone.

I know nothing about what happened. But reading the responses... if there was a rehearsal and this joke was already told and seemingly accepted at first... then perhaps the slap (or whatever it was) was scripted as well. Anywhoooo, I personally dislike the type of comedy that pokes fun at other people. It's laughing at the expense of others. Laughing at them, instead of with them. I prefer it when the joker pokes fun at himself. But that's probably just me.

He's lucky he didn't get charged with assault.

I do applaud Will Smith for making the apology, but still stand behind my thought that the joke was not out of line even if it was not all that funny. I mean, it's not like Will Smith has never made a joke about someone's balding condition. In fact, he has done it several times. I bet even if you go through a few episodes of The Fresh Prince, he might have made a few in there as well, even if he did not necessarily write all the jokes.
