The Academy Awards or Oscars began in 1929, and over the years has had its share of controversies and drama - the latest being the slapping of Chris Rock by Will Smith. Thank God it did not turn into a fist fight. Anyway, l selected five out of a number of embarrassing and controversial Oscar night moments over the years. I found them in an article in the Daily Mail uk. Here goes. In 1974 an American photographer Robert Opal streaked across the stage naked at the moment David Niven was introducing Elizabeth Taylor.He " flashed the audience and threw up a peace sign." In 1973,Marlon Brando who was awarded best actor for his role in The Godfather , snubbed the Academy. He sent an Apache woman Sacheem Littlefeather to decline the award. In 2003 actor Adrian Broody after receiving his best actor award from Halle Berry -- grabbed her and kissed her passionately on the lips. In 2013Jennifer Lawrence fell down on her way to collect her award. Seems she was tripped by her voluminous Dior gown. In 2019 for the first time in 30 years the Oscars found itself without a host after Kevin Hart was forced to quit.- seems a series of homophobic tweets had resurfaced. Will there be another Oscar controversy in 2023?- we'll just have to wait and see won't we.
