Pussywillow Sunday

I know all around the world they are celebrating Palm Sunday. Since palms do not grow in Latvia it is celebrated and accepted as Pussywillo Sunday or in Latvian Pupolu Svetdiena. It ti traditional to gather pussywillows which grow wild everywhere and put them in vases, The first person in the family to wake up early on Sunday takes some pussywillows and wakes the others by gently spanking them with the branches and wishing them health and happiness. The lovely little girl in the photo is my mother at four years of age, This would have been in Riga, Latvia in 1915. Her hair is curled and she is all dressed u to get to church and perhaps even guests might have come over later.

Pussywillo Sunday is a good celebration. Hope Latvian people still celebrate it.

What a lovely tradition and how pretty your mother is. Here is my mother and uncle who have obviously had their hair curled too. It would have been about 1915 or 16 too.

Nice picture. Love palm trees and the half shades they provide. They are everywhere now.
