10 Books Florida has banned that everyone NEEDS to read.

So in the last couple days/weeks there has been a lot of talk about books being banned in Florida. This is relevant to me, since I live here. I am also aware of a handful of 'Lotters that also reside in the Sunshine State, so maybe they will chime in on this as well. But really, the fact that ANY books are being banned is rediculous. That might just be the English major in me. But seriously, telling students which books they can or cannot read or keeping certain books out of the school libraries is just downright stupid to me. I scanned the list yesterday and was appalled by the list of books that I saw. Most of them I have read. So I decided to do a series of ten books that have landed on the Florida banned books list that I think everyone needs to read. Without further ado, here is book number one. "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. This is one that is close to my heart. Ever since I read it, it has always been close to my heart. I have read it multiple times, as well as the other book that Harper Lee wrote. While the second book wasn't as good as TKAM, it is still good. To Kill a Mockingbird is all about the South, so of course the south now sees it as racist. The book revolves around southern lawyer Atticus Finch as he tries to raise his two young kids and teach them not to judge books by their covers and to treat everyone as you would want to be treated. If you haven't read it, you should go out and order it, borrow it, buy it for your e reader and read it right now.

To Kill a Mockingbird has been on a lot of banned lists. The thing that should surprise no one that the #1 most banned book in America is the Holy Bible. No wonder we’re in the shape we’re in.

That one used to be on required reading lists. I remember when people started banning Mark Twain.

Humans (I hesitate to say 'humanity) seem to be going back to the dark ages. And banning books just makes teenagers want to read them all the more. I remember in my day Peyron Place was the book everyone was itching to read.

The other halfs mom talks about that book all the time. But I've never read it. I should get on it. That's exactly how I feel about it. If you tell them that they can't do it they wanna do it more.

I love To Kill a Mocking Bird. I have it in my library. Why would Florida ban the book but for all I know it might be banned in Georgia.

@thislittlepennyearns Come to think of it I think I wrote a discussion about banned books a few years ago. If I remember correctly Tom Sawyer is another book that was banned. Who makes these decisions?

Because people are trying to make everyone hate everything.

So many silly things happening in our country these days. I agree about this book. Everyone should read it.

And watch the movie as well. It's rate that I think a movie lives up to the book. But that one did. I'll be mad if they try to remke it.

Wasn't the ban because some of these books contained CRT? I dont know.
