Today it finally rained. Not since the morning which was fine because it took me a long time to find my umbrella inside my closet and left it finally on my bed. But after I was safe and sound at home, it started to rain. In a country that really rains people would laugh at this rain. But here, in the country´s capital (a city with over 7 million people) a little wind left us with no light. The TV went off, the alarm started to sound, and I had to close my eyes to remember where were the candles and matches I use in these situations. I had to use a lot of imagination because Rosa is always changing everything. I had matches WITH the candles when I lived alone. But it is not like that any longer. Finally I got everything with the aid of my tablet. I turned the candles on and at that moment the lights went on and the TV started to reprogram its channels. Now I have a flashlight in my bed just in case. Are you prepared for light shortages? How?

We are not really prepared at all. I know we have a torch (flashlight) in the caravan but that's 20 miles away.

We never had blackouts but I am ready for light shortages. I have one candle (with matches) in every room, but also some lights plugged that turns on automatically if the light goes off.

@marguicha - We get ready as you never know. I also have a battery powered torch on my desktop.

Power outages are a way of life in Florida, particularly during Hurricane season. My husband and I have flashlights in almost every room of the house. We also have flashlights built into our phones. my phone is always near me.

@marguicha Might be a good idea to resume the habit then.

I keep a flashlight on my bedside table just in case. My electricity doesn’t go out often but occasionally it does.

I used to do that because earthquakes could mean problems with electricity. But I never thought of a rain.

@marguicha Sometimes trees fall across the power lines and sometimes a transformer is struck by lightening.

We have candles, flashlights and emergency lights that go on when the power goes out. By the end of May we will have a standby generator.

My sister lives in a town where there are strong winds and rain. She has a generator.

We have those forgetful moments. Yes, I do have candles and matches set aside. And a kettle for heating water on a gas stove.
