Flowers provide so many pleasures like beauty, a fragrant smell, and something to put one in a good mood. After all, what lady hates getting flowers. Yet, this video song by The Rolling Stones puts a different take on those lovely blooms. Instead, they called their tune "Dead Flowers." Fun fact: This 1971 song is very different sounding than your typical "Stones" song. The music and lyrics distinctly have a country sound with Mick imitating his best rodeo vocal. Hope you enjoyed this unusually titled song. Pay close attention to the "song's lyrics" when you "listen to the video" to answer question #1. All right, now for your music challenge. Whodunnit- Name the tune, artist. or lyrics: 1(a) Our Rolling Stones music video mentions a "girl's name" in the lyrics. -Can you recall her name? (b) The singer receives some dead flowers from the lady in the song. And the singer promises he won't forget to put some flowers on her grave. That flower is also a color. -Do you know what flower is the one he chose? (c) The song lyrics mention a famous horse race. It occurs the first week in "May." -Do you know what this event is called? 2. This "duet" about flowers sung by "two music superstars" reached the #1 spot on the Billboard charts in "1978." Each singer's vocals were recorded separately, and the finished product was then" spliced together" to create this wonderful tune. Interestingly, both the male and female "Jewish artists" were both born in "Brooklyn." Instead of the song title being about "getting flowers" it was the "complete opposite." -Do you know the name of these 2 artists and their "flower-titled" song? 3. Bonus- Peter Seeger wrote this song in 1965 as a call for peace. This tune has been recorded by 165 artists among them the "Kingston Trio and Peter, Paul & Mary." In the song Seeger wonders "what happened to the flowers" a pessimistic view expressed in his lyrics, where the girls pick the pretty flowers to put on the graves of dead soldiers. -Do you know the name of this song from the above clues? Ok, let's not have an “Oops-a-daisy" when figuring out these song and artist answers. If you're stuck and need additional hints just let me know in your response. Or as the band Jefferson Starship would say, you can "Count On Me." Thanks for reading and responding to my music post!!! I will return with a new edition soon. Hope you can wait till then, lol. Stay tuned... Source- Wikipedia & songfacts.com
