Changing Faces.

Changing faces are like changing seasons; Blowing hot, then cold, whatever the reason. So many aspects to the changing face; It can appear anywhere- at home or at the workplace. When it appears in marriage, that is the hardest to bear , you promise yourself you won't shed a tear. The changing face can go from loving to mean; Hard, unbending, the coldest you've ever seen. No more sensuous hot summer nights; No words spoken before you turn off the lights. Breaking through the ice is no easy task; Dashed hopes, you know this relationship will not last. You notice the change when summer runs into fall; Winter arrives and you face a brick wall. Did you see it coming? Who is to blame?. An icy blast of reality, some things never remain the same. @FayeHazel l doubt l have that talent either. I can't even play a musical instrument, but my goal is to fulfill a lifelong dream of learning to play the piano.

It seems most people are romantics and envision romance when gaining a partner. Somehow, that missed me and I am glad of it. That way, when the shocking cruelty was revealed, it did not surprise me as much. Reality was real and it was easy to leave and never look back.

@Kandae11 Yes we often cannot imagine the horrors we will face as we had compassion, they did not.

That's a meaningful poem. I guess a changing face is better than the stone-faced unchanging poker face though. At least we can read someone's feelings by their changes of face. Sometimes, we do not see that change coming though, as you have said there.

@Kandae11 Yes, thanks, for explaining that for me. Lack of communication, (i.e. lack of communication that is heart to heart, with open receiving hearts, on both sides), is what causes most problems in relationships, I would say.

@innertalks Definitely. There is also infidelity in the poem - summer is the wife , fall and winter are the two women who have contributed to his changing face.

Both can be bad - the poker face and the changing face. With the poker face you can't be sure what is going on in the person's mind but you know in your heart that something is up - and it is not good. The changing face does not necessarily mean a change of expression, but a change of attitude. Which could result in a silent poker face or a silent smiling face. The problem the woman in the poem is facing is the silent treatment, a cold silence, no communication. It was not like that in the earlier years of the marriage.

Yes, one's expression can say a lot. “Few realize how loud their expressions really are." Your facial expressions and body language can divulge whatever you're trying to hide. Nice poem and very true!

Thank you. In this case the husband no longer loves the wife. He might have still wanted out even if he had not met and got involved with two women whom l named Fall and Winter.

@Kandae11 An all-too-common theme with some relationships and marriage.
