A bike-repair station could save much frustration

We’ve just returned from a few days in the tourist town of Busselton. Every time we go there, there is more development and/or updates of existing facilities. There is a number of bike and walk trails in the area and these are well-used. At one point on the bike trail near our caravan park was this bike repair ‘station’. Wire ropes hold spanners, a tyre-removal gadget and several other tools that a bike-rider might need. There is an air-pump for inflating tyres and a pressure gauge plus two different stands to hold a bike while it is being repaired. All this on one neat post. I’m sure it’s saved a lot of frustration for some.

That’s incredibly cool! I wish we could have some of those here. We have bike rental racks, and it seems to me those should be part of the rack.

@JudyEv — ah, yes, vandalism.

Maybe you could suggest it to the authorities. I guess it would depend a bit on how bad vandalism is in your part of the country.

We saw one guy walking and wheeling his bike so perhaps he was heading for it.

That is practical and very useful for many bikers that may encounter problems with their bikes. I wonder if they asks for a fee for using those or is it given for free. In here the only way to have your bike repaired is either thru gasonline stations where you would most likely give a fee for using their facility.

I'm sure it will be a big help for people who know how to repair a bike on the trail. (Most people here have no idea how to repair a bike so they take them to repair shops.)

I guess the 'serious' riders might have some idea.

That's quite useful, it could save a long walk home! I have seen a couple of pavement-mounted air pumps in town here, but that's all. And in the main, anything like that is liable to get vandalised, sadly.

@JudyEv A very small number of people can spoil things for everyone else.

As I don't live there I don't know if these get vandalised or not. The tools are attached with wire rope; otherwise I'm sure they'd 'walk'.

@popciclecold I think it was pretty standard back in those days. Punctures were quite common and you had to repair your own.

You're welcome. I remember my brother having a little bag that held repair items.
