"Come Together" was released in 1969. LOVE this song sung by John Lennon.
During John and Yoko's Bed-ins for Peace, Timothy Leary visited. Leary was going to run for Governor of California and wanted Lennon to write him a campaign song based on the campaign slogan, "Come Together...Join the Party". Leary remembers getting a tape of the tune; but Lennon and Leary did not contact each other after that.
During recording sessions for "Abbey Road", John composed a new song for the album based on the phrase "Come together". To lessen the similarity to Chuck Berry's "You Can't Catch Me", the tempo was slowed down.
The song reached #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and US Cash Box Top 100.

He got Ono sideboard, he one spinal cracker
He got feet down below his knee"

Me too. A lot of it makes no sense; but I love it anyway.

While I always liked to sing “got to be good looking ‘cause he’s so hard to see” as “got to be good looking ‘cause he looks just like me”
this is definitely NOT one of my favorite Beatles songs. In fact, I’d put it in the bottom ten. What a killjoy am I, huh?

@LindaOHio — yeah, it’s like “give us some of what you’re smoking, dude” time with those lyrics!

I'm a bit more partial to "Michelle." But this is a good song too. I have always liked the Beatles.

@LindaOHio I was named after that song and Leonard Cohen’s “Suzanne.”

Come Together was an interesting tune. I liked it more musically than lyrically since the lyrics made no sense. But you can't argue too much about a song that hit #1 on the charts. It was catchy! Fun fact: They used a rotary phone sound effort to start off the track. How about that for innovation, lol.

I knew about the rotary phone. In concert, John made the "shhhhh" sound.
