A Great Adventure at an Estate Sale

I had so much fun at an estate sale this week. I have stopped going to yard sales to find stuff to sell on eBay, unless it's a multi-family yard sale or a church yard sale. With gas costing so much, it doesn't make sense to go to individual yard sales right now. So I have been trying to ht more estate sales because people are selling all the contents of their house at those and there is much more of a variety of stuff to go through. There was an estate sale near me that started on Friday and was supposed to end on Monday. I went on Monday because I heard there was still lots of stuff left. Things were marked down to 25% that day. But I only had 1 hour to send there and this was a 4-bedroom house that was about 4,000 square feet! I was ready to check out but didn't have time to wait in line. I heard that the sale was going to be extended until Tuesday. So I asked the person running the sale if she could save the items for me that I had already picked out, and come back the next day. She said yes. I know her because I have gone to many of her sales before. So the next day I went back to pay for my items and look around a bit more. On that day she told me everything except the furniture was 50% off. Be still my heart! So I spent another hour going through the whole house again. I was mostly looking for men's and women's clothing but never pass up the chance to find more treasures. I spent $138!!! All on things I am going to resell on eBay. Oh my goodness, I have never spent that much on one eBay shopping trip before. Here is what I got: 9 Men's Pendelton button-down shirts 1 brand new Tommy Hilfiger tie that still has the tags on it 1 pair of LL Bean Men's cargo shorts, new and still in the package 1 Men's Master's golf windbreaker 1 Men's The North Face fleece jacket 1 Men's vintage Atlanta Olympics windbreaker trainer jacket 1 pair of Men's Ralph Lauren leather sneakers 1 Women's Talbots sweater, new with tags on it 1 Women's Ralph Lauren flannel nightshirt 1 pair of Women's Polo Ralph Lauren tennis shoes Certain things I have high hopes for, and others will be just to have new stuff to list as the more items I can list the more my items will show up front and center in searches when people are looking for things. I am quite excited and plan on listing and selling lots of items on eBay during the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. Do you have plans for the upcoming weekend?

You found lots of treasury to sell on ebay. Nice!! Good luck with your business. So far, nothing planned, but the usual. Sleep in, watch special programing, say a silent prayer of thanks.

That looks like a good batch of items that you got. Hopefully, these items sell well on eBay for you. I have work on Saturday but there are plans to meet up with college buddies and go for a swim on Sunday. Hoping that pushes through.

@Kouponkaren thanks. Curious as to how you compute for the mark up of your items in eBay. Care to share?

@allen0187 I am not sure what you mean. eBay doesn't mark up my items. Do you mean for the percentage that eBay takes when we have sales? My theory is that it is always better to make 85% earnings on a sale, than to not sell anything because of eBay's cut.

@marlina Thank you. I sold 5 items this weekend. None from this sale, but because I was listing items from the sale all weekend, I think it helped boost views to my other items and brought in sales!

My husband has lost a lot of weight, I have two piles of his clothing that I am going to donate, very good things. It breaks my heart to get rid of those men suits, but it's better to donate than to throw.

@Kouponkaren This is what I thought, some young men who cannot afford to pay the price of a brand new business suit. Should I know someone I will give for free, but I know no one.

@LadyDuck Yes, and just think, there may be some very poor men out there who will need those suits for job interviews, or to wear to church and they will be grateful to have gotten them at a lower price.

This is very wise shopping, especially to make money. I've gone to one estate sale. Such intriguing events , so many interesting art and artifacts. Wish I could find one here.

@db20747 There is a website called estatesalesdotnet...well you know what I mean. I can't put a link on here so if you put that in your browser in a link format, then put in your zip code and how many miles from that zip code you are willing to travel, it will send you updates on estate sales in your area. That's how I find estate sales in my area.
