Yeah, I know. This is wimpy stuff compared to all the other hard liquor in this countdown. I remember that episode of M*A*S*H where Hawkeye and Trapper tried to pass off some of their homemade gin to Hot Lips as “champagne.” “This stuff isn’t champagne,” she protested. “Champagne tickles my nose.” “This stuff eats it away,” Hawkeye replied. So with that, here’s our wimpy drink on the booze countdown.
#8: Champagne Jam - Atlanta Rhythm Section
Wimpy alcohol, but I wasn’t about to leave this song off the list.
The forgotten southern rock band, and that’s a shame. Long in the shadow of the heavy hitters like Skynyrd and Tucker, ARS also didn’t have the “stereotypical” southern rock sound. And that also may have contributed to them not being well remembered in the world of southern rock.
But I sure enjoyed the boys from Doraville quite a bit back in the 70s, thank you ma’am.

It’s probably not your style, but who knows, you might like it.

@FourWalls It sounded like...something I would...hear on the radio.

I remember the Atlanta Rhythm Section but wasn't that much of a fan. The radio would play songs of theirs but I forget the songs now.

I think their biggest hits were “So Into You” and “Imaginary Lover.” They also sort of covered “Spooky”…I say “sort of,” because two guys in the Atlanta Rhythm Section were also in the Classics IV (James Cobb and Buddy Buie) and co-wrote “Spooky.”

@FourWalls Oh yes, now I remember that song Imaginary Lover. I lived in Atlanta as a teenager. They played that song a lot on 96 Rock radio station.

They had a few to 40 hits but haven’t had that “following” since. I think that’s a shame because they were a good band.

They were a blip on the radar screen in terms of popularity here in the 70s, soon drowned out by disco. But I had their albums and remember them fondly.

Understandable. Just think of how many you did know last month!
