Need a new iPhone

My iPhone was acting up last night. I had app icons that would disappear and yet when I'd click on the spot where an app is it would open the app but then it would close right away or not load anything. Same thing happened when I'd click on an app icon I see. Or I'd open an app and it would be buffering and then I'd be taken to a screen to enter my passcode and taken back to the main screen. I'd click on the mail app but no messages would load. Never had this happen before. Thankfully, this doesn't seem to be happening today and when I clicked on my mail app after a little buffering the messages seemed to have loaded. It shows I have 15.3 GB out of 16 GB used and yet I get a message that my iPhone storage is full. The most space is taken up by Other, which I have no control over. I've been getting this message plenty of times before. I can't even upgrade to the latest iOS because not enough iPhone storage. Guess it's time for a new iPhone. Mine is iPhone 6S. I got it in 2016 I think. I don't know which new iPhone to get but I want it to be close in size to the 6S. I don't like big phones. And I want lots of storage. 16 GB is definitely not enough, even though I hardly have any apps that I downloaded from the app store. Guess I will have to do a search online to see what's available and what the dimensions are of each phone. Then I am gonna have to get my mom to go to AT&T with me so I can get the new phone. I am on her wireless account so I'd need her to do that.

Apple stopped offering updates to the iPhone 6, so as all of your apps keep updating on their end, those updates aren’t being supported on your phone. This is causing operating issues for your phone. In addition, your phone has essentially used up all its memory, so that is also causing operating issues. Unfortunately, it’s time for a phone upgrade. Check with your carrier and see if they are offering any newer phones for free right now.

@lovebuglena I have Verizon and I financed my phone through them over 24 months. It doesn’t make sense to pay full price when you can set up monthly payments. I even think I got a discount price on the phone by financing it vs paying in full.

I keep getting pop-ups from time to time to upgrade to a newer iOS but I never do because no room on my phone for that. They say I can do that via iTunes on my computer, however, even if the new iOS download will be through my computer there won't be enough room on my phone to install the system.

Most likely I will get the phone from AT&T and do the monthly payment thing on it. My mom got hers directly from Apple and paid in full. I wonder why she did that. Like what is the benefit of that as opposed to getting it from a wireless provider and paying for it over time?

I think you can get away with an iPhone se, no matter the generation. That's the smallest (next to the mini) Apple sells. You also need to consider, all apps collect data, so it doesn't matter how much apps you have on your phone, you can still fill up memory quickly. You should also be powering your phone on and off at least twice a week, too. And, many of those problems can be resolved by factory restarting your phone. It'll buy you a little more time until you can upgrade.

@lovebuglena Well, yes. It would be the same as getting a brand new phone. I assume you do have an iCloud account?

Will resetting the phone erase everything? I don't turn my phone off and on often. I will try to remember to do that.

@lovebuglena I was told by the phone guy at ATT to power mine down at least once or twice a week for a few minutes, then turn it back on.

Oh iPhone 6 is quite old already. I believe that they stopped having upgrades of the ios for that version already and the size of storage nowadays ranges from 128gb to 256gb for the iphone 13 I think. I had my 7 replacednjust a few weeks ago when my sister handed me her old iPhone XR to me.

@rsa101 I got a pop-up yesterday to upgrade. Didn't pay attention to which version it said as I can't do the upgrade anyway.

I have to unfortunately, which means I need to research all available phones now to see which iPhone best for me. Don't want a huge phone.

My 6s lasted for years and worked perfectly but it was starting to have a few issues in November. I got a new iPhone for Christmas, and it's very fast. I hope it lasts me as long as the other one did.

Which iPhone did you get? I am not sure, which to get. I don't want a huge phone. My mom has the 11 and I want something smaller than that. I also realize newer phones work a bit differently than mine and there is no round button on the bottom. It will take getting used to using the new phone.
