A friend sent me an old music video on Carpenters singing Close to You, one of my favorite Carpenters songs. I love their songs. Other favorites - Yesterday Once More; Only Yesterday; Superstar; For All We Know; We've Only Just Begun; Top of the World (which really cheers me up). Karen Carpenter has a very special voice. It's so sad that she died of heart failure due to complications from eating disorder at the young age of 32.

Karen Carpenter could have sung an instruction manual and made it sound good. I didn’t always agree with their choice of songs (like covering Klaatu’s “Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft”), much like Linda Ronstadt’s choices weren’t always stellar, but WOW what a voice!

Her voice was just incredible.
I think my favorite that they recorded was Masquerade. It seemed to fit somehow.

That's true. Preasures of the industry can cause many problems. I saw a movie about her story. Sadly, she'd been trying to recover, but to late.

Never heard.. Sorry about such a wonderful talent leaving so young at the age of 32. Rest in Peace Karen Carpenter.

Close to You is a great song. I still remember when I heard it for the first time. I was transfixed.

Oldies but goodies. I like their music, the vocalist's voice is soothing to the ears.
