Oh, boy are you in for a treat! It’s the usual Roger Miller two-fer, a song written by Roger and a song by Roger (a countdown requested by @xander6464 ), but today is special! but then I’m special. Here’s today’s song that Miller wrote that became a hit for someone else. #4: Invitation to the Blues - Ray Price MEMO TO LINDA: run. Anytime you see the name Ray Price run. It’s guaranteed country music. What’s the special? Thanks to Bing not cooperating this morning, I had to get a screen grab of the video. And, if you’ll look at the screen grab, you’ll see that the band member singing harmony with Ray Price on this song is…..none other than Roger Miller. As a rule Miller played drums in Price’s Cherokee Cowboys touring band, but hey, he wrote the song, so why not step up to sing harmony with the boss!! During a tour a young singer/songwriter just starting out, Bill Anderson, was opening for Price. He and Miller became good friends…but that’s for another song’s discussion. As for this particular song, it was the B-side to Price’s massive hit “City Lights,” which was Anderson’s first success as a songwriter. Pretty darn good one-two punch, if you ask me. Invitation to the Blues Written by Roger Miller Recorded by Ray Price Released as a single, 1958 Walked the floor so much wore out my shoes:

Run. Hobble. Get the wheelchair kicked into overdrive. Put speed skates on your walker. Whatever it takes. Ray Price was everything I love about country music…and everything you hate!

@LindaOHio — they do. It’s a stereotype that it’s all country music. Lots of rock bands are from the south, y’know.

@FourWalls I could live in the south as long as they had an oldies station on the radio.

@FourWalls You were too quick for me! I actually wrote the wrong comment so did a cut and paste to the King of the Road. Please believe me when I say I don't usually cut and paste. I'd hate to be reported.

Ray Price was so good. I didn’t care too much for his pop era (“For the Good Times” stuff) but wow what a singer.
