Federal troops arrived in Galveston Texas to make sure all enslaved peoples were known to be free. It was June 19, 1865, when enslaved African-Americans became aware of their freedom in Texas and all through the southwestern United States. General Granger stood on Texas soil and read General Orders No.3- That all slaves are free. Slavery's end had finally come. They reunite with their families and lead normal lives.
It wasn't until June 17, 2021, that this day became an official federal holiday.

Why it takes more a century to recognize it and becomes a national holiday?

I am so happy that it has become a federal holiday now. It needs to be sung from the rooftops.

there are lots of aspects in American History that LONG deserve recognition.
for the different ethnic groups and races everywhere it is important that you know your particular history and not just what is usually written in history books in school.
