Can you cope with extreme heat?

Today there are 34 degrees Celsius here. It is very hot. I was outside because I had to. It made me feel awful. I felt I couldn't breathe. I had a panic attack. I don't have A/C. And many days with extreme heat will follow. I don't like extreme cold or extreme heat. How do you cope with extreme heat?

I was born and raised in Southern California . . . I happen to be able to tolerate extreme heat. We have A/C, but have acclimated to not using it (we are not typical . . . most people here do use A/C excessively). I manage the house windows all day, we keep hydrated, we use water spray bottles . . . oh my husband just finished insulating parts of the garage so it does not overheat. But extreme cold - that is my weakness!

@sharon6345 Nope, we are crazy . My neighbors will tell you no one can live in our Valley without the A/C - but we do. It's weird but I actually sleep better when it's warm . . . I absolutely cannot stand being cold, or sleep with a draft crawling on my skin. I welcome sweat as a way of detoxing. I'm all for our bodies regulating our temperatures to get acclimated to our environment (that way we don't rely on A/C or heat or have crazy energy bills). I know, we are weird .

@much2say I have headaches if I am in a room with A/C. I can't stand being cold either.

We deal with temps above 40C here in our country oftentimes in summer. We follow some dietary changes to cope with the heat, like eating cooling foods (like gourds, Indian yoghurts, chutney etc.), bathing 2-3 times a day, applying copious amount of coconut or hibiscus oil on hair and so on.

It's extremely hot there. Why do you use coconut on hair? Without a/c it is so difficult to cope with this heat.

@dya80dya If you go out with coconut oil on your hair, yout head remains cool for a long time. You can use other oils too. A/C is there in our bedroom . But while outdoors, we still need to manage the heat.

You are lucky. Here this extreme heat doesn't last long. But it's good to have an a/c. I hope we can buy one soon.

I find 34 pretty hot. Luckily we don't get many days in the 30s. I can cope with it if I take it easy.

And it will be even worse. But not in my town. I think we are lucky. In a few days the temperature will be 38 degrees Celsius in other towns.

It's 34C here also. Other than the early morning / late evening walk, I stay home with my a/c on. I go to the supermarket for groceries shopping. Of course they have the a/c on. I can stand the heat but the humidity really makes me sick. How long do you have to stay outside? Drink more water.

I didn't have to stay a long time outside. I have to feed some animals. Poor animals need water and food. I think we should buy an a/c. But it is expensive and this extreme heat doesn't last long.

We had some days last week that were 40C outside. Pretty and I stayed inside as much as we could. (I can stand the heat better than she can but I didn't want to be out in it, either.)

I take meds for PTSD. They work. So I don't have panic attacks right now. But I am pretty tolerant of changes in the weather. I am lucky enough to have a pool where I live. When the temps approach 40C, I look forward to jumping in the pool when my day is over.

The heat here in our place is not too much. When it's hot, we take a shower or let the electric fan cool us off.
