The Incredible Shrinking President

No one likes him, and that dislike seems to be growing and fast. Joe Biden. Our supposed president. If he were an elevator, he'd be in a free fall—and just like his presidency has been so far, it would be one hell of a scary ride. And who knows where the bottom is? Should it come as any surprise that his latest poll numbers show that nearly 60% of the American people, including his own party, strongly disapprove of the president's performance? We have inflation we have not seen for better than 40 years. We still suffer major supply chain issues and labor shortages—a labor shortage that may correct itself soon as we are clearly headed for a recession and maybe even a deep one. That means employers may pull back from hiring. So, there goes low unemployment numbers which are now only bolstered by the fact that there are still millions of people not even actively seeking work. It could be worse than the recession we suffered under Obama in fact. Gas prices continue to be a problem and clearly there is no REAL plan to fix that. Oh, Biden keeps saying they will do "anything and everything available to bring down gas prices," but we all know what he means is he will do everything except for anything that we know will actually work. So, gas prices will remain what they are. Horrible. I don't think that changes for the foreseeable future just like under Obama we saw horrible gas prices almost his entire two terms. It is almost impossible to believe that when it comes to the 2024 election Biden's incumbency is going to matter. It is no secret that word in DNC circles is they don't want him to be the nominee. They don't want Harris either. So, it is highly likely we will have a democrat primary. How are the American people going to have any confidence that the democrat party no matter who runs will have the ideas and policy necessary to turn the country back around in the right direction? Based on the eight years of Obama and the middle of Biden's presidency, only a fool would be able to believe that. I am not going to make this into a "Trump was a genius" post. But there is STARK contrast between Obama, Trump and Biden. Clearly for all of Trump's antics and 'disturbing' moments, he seemed to have a clear idea of what to do to get America chugging along after a dragging eight years of Obama, and certainly no one can intelligently argue Trump's economy was solid and good. We were humming along under Trump, and for the first time in a very long time. Now on top of everything else the markets are crashing, the dollar is falling, and Americans now find themselves financially strapped to rockets heading straight for the ground in a fiery explosion. Retirees are losing ground. Workers are losing ground. Businesses are losing ground. It's a disaster the likes of which even I did not see coming. I knew it would be bad. But THIS bad? Nope. I did not see that. But here we are. Crashing and burning with fires alight every which way we turn from the economy to foreign relations to almost everything this guy touches. Beyond that, Biden can't even get a word out half the time. Harris meanwhile cackles like a woman on the verge of a nervous breakdown while hundreds of thousands of illegals cross the border into our country. People are dying in the streets loaded up with fentanyl and her staff office door has been replaced from one that opens inward to one that simply goes round and round. What's worse, beyond Biden not having a clue what is going on, his entire cabinet and other staff can't get it straight what's going on either. His entire staff has shoes with footprints on the tops as they all step over each other trying to keep it all straight and make it look like the left hand knows what the right hand is doing. It is utter chaos the likes of which I have never seen and it is only going to get worse. We still have roughly two years of this. Is it possible that Biden's support dwindles to zero? I think we might just see that. What has happened so far is only just the tip of the iceberg, folks. How bad can it get? God only knows, and God help us all.

You know how I feel about the current situation. So many words come to mind. Humiliated, depressed, concerned, worried, etc. I will keep hoping for a change and better days eventually. Just when I think it can't get any worse... it does.

The ONLY encouraging thing about this whole Biden thing is that the democrats are dropping off like flies in support of him. You KNOW it's bad when even a liberal can't deny their own disaster.

I'm really worried about the hike in fuel prices.

We would not likely have these hikes in oil prices and of course prices at the pump anywhere in the world had Biden not shut down U.S. oil.

@ihasaquestion Economists, like any profession, are a mixed bag of ideas and opinions. But consensus suggests most agree that reversing Trump's energy policy is a large reason not only for higher gas prices but inflation as well. Granted, inflation is not ENTIRELY the result of gas prices, but it is a big part of it since everything in the economy is produced and moved using energy and energy resources. Even plastic is a product MADE from oil, and so when it costs more everything costs more and when diesel is the primary fuel of commerce—it all really stacks up fast.

Biden clearly doesn't know what the heck he is doing. And he is only half way to his presidency.

@porwest I’m not holding my breath for things to get better. Doubt they will.

@lovebuglena With the current circumstance there is no reason to suggest how things CAN even get better. The path in front of is just more destruction. Let's just hope we all survive it and most of all, the COUNTRY survives it.

That's the scariest part, really. We are only halfway there. A LOT can happen in two years.

Why single out the blame to President Biden of this inflation for it's an international economic problem. Our country is greatly affected of it. Are we going to blame our President too? What's the root cause of it?

You are forgetting that the United States is the world's leading economy. Everything that happens here affects the rest of the world.

@KristineGey I already did. My suggestion prior to his supposed election was not to vote for him. Now we have to sit it out and wait for something better to come along in 2024.

He’s easily topped Carter as the worst president in my lifetime. Ford was pretty bad, but to be fair to him he wasn’t really applying for the job.

I think Carter is happy to live to see the day when his legacy is no longer the worst one. I'd agree about Ford as well.

Trump accomplished probably more than any other American president in history and was clearly destined to put America back on a very strong economic course for many years to come. The only thing that stopped him was Covid.
