Create Your Own Economy

Rush Limbaugh was a man who was, of course, known for his strong conservative political views. His radio talk show was historically the most successful and most widely listened to radio show to ever hit the airwaves. And there was good reason for that. His words were wise, and they carried weight. But outside of politics he also shared many philosophies to his listeners which were often times extremely insightful, encouraging, uplifting, and inspirational. One of his philosophies was independence—creating your own status quo. Not fighting the 'system,' but operating in a way that the system does not matter. "People want power and control over your life. You can either let them have it, or you can simply take control over yourself. Sticking it to the man is not about screwing the rich, as so many want you to believe. It's about sticking it to the people who want you to believe they are on your side and not understanding who actually IS on your side." These were not his words ver batim. But that was his message. America, he said many times, is the greatest country on Earth, with the greatest opportunities to succeed ever known to man. No one can stifle your dreams. No one can tell you that you can't do something if you really want to do it. The only hurdle is BELIEVING you can't do something. In part of his message he talked often about all of the things that can affect our financial status in life. Inflation, taxes, policies and regulations that add to the costs of everything we buy. People in power holding us down, regardless of what they tell you their intent is. If we let THEM hold us back and hold us down and allow them to force us to play by their rules, that's what they want. That's their goal. They don't want YOU to know better. Regardless of wages. Regardless of status. Regardless of the bills we create for ourselves. We all have the power to create our own economies. We can save and invest. We can partcipate in success. And when inflation is killing us, and gas prices are killing us, and taxes are killing us... We don't have to play along with the POWER structure. We can make our own futures and create our own economies. Power is one thing and one thing only. The ability to tell you that you don't have it, and to convince you that you can't have it. To allow other people to tell you what is impossible and then tell you that those who have financial means are evil, greedy people out to screw you. They tell you, "You can't ever have what they have." And they force you to believe it. Many do. But you don't have to. You can buck it. The whole thing. Taxes, inflation, low wages? These are all a part of life. You can allow these things to be your excuse and hold you down or you can say no more. Enough of that, and BUCK it all. The power. The REAL power. The powers that tell you they are on your side when all their aim really is, is to hold you back and hold you down and keep you in their control. They want you to hate success and hate the rich and hate accomplishment. If you say no to it then you gain independence and personal wealth, and suddenly you no longer need the "powers that be." And when that happens? The powerful become powerless.

I think I overcame many obstacles in my working career. I managed to work in supervisory and management positions with only 3 years of college. That golden degree did keep my from obtaining a couple of jobs that I applied for; but I persevered and was able to find a management position 3 miles from home that paid extremely well. I stayed there for 15 years.

@LindaOHio I don't know. From my experience I have never needed one. I actually think it would have held me back.

There is one thing I have found throughout life. One can either claim obstacles, or overcome them. I choose the latter.

This is so true. Henry Ford said whether you think you can or that you cant, you are right.

There is so much truth to that statement. Too many people sell themselves short and it's a shame. Mind over matter is a very powerful thing.

I think that's a very powerful message. A year ago I might of thought it bs, but at the same time, I know it's true because I consider myself successful.

@porwest I know and understand that. I can still cringe at the prices, but I can't control them. But I can make plans to accommodate for the price hikes.

@kaylachan Yep. That's it exactly. Inflation has to be dealt with, but it CAN be hedged on a personal level.

Part of the message, of course, is to create circumstances and situations where you are better able to navigate your finances and your life so that what happens around those things are less impacting when they go awry. Take this inflation thing right now. It is going to impact the cost of things to everyone. But the impact personally depends on how much ability you have to deal with and handle the costs.

He is an A1 philosopher. He is endowed with political witticism. He's optimistic. I remember a line from the poem of Edward Everett Hale, which says "I am only one, but still I am one. I can't do everything but I can do something. And because I can't do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do."

I like that. And those words are absolutely true as well. If no one ever did anything because they were only one man, no one would do anything to make the world better—and the thing is that of course something one man does often catches on and then two people do it and then three and then three hundred and so on and so forth.

That would be a rather unwise decision in my opinion.

Such profound thoughts, It's only now that I have read this type of perspective. and I'm finding it interesting, challenging, and true. It's like one phrase I have read that no one can control you unless you allow them to. Powerful and difficult to achieve though. But we can always keep trying. Your last statement is the crowning challenge on the cake: "The powerful become powerless." Thank you for this wealth of information.

Yes, it is true. People can have power over the lives of others but I like what you said, we should not allow others to control us because we have the full control of ourselves. No matter the statuses we have, we can create the life we want and not others want for us.

That is it exactly. Make and control your own destiny. Things in the world will happen. We can let those things either impact us greatly, or impact us only a little. We don't have to be beholden to what comes at us. It is better to be prepared to handle what does.

i listened to Rush for abouts 30 years. i wish he kept doing the tv show. i still remember as to how some people would compare him and howard stern . i think hes the first one who actually got me thinking in a different way. Or rather looking at things differently and questioning more often.

I would be confused by the Howard Stern comparison. Stern was a shock jockey. Limbaugh's show was much more refined and serious...and frankly IMPORTANT. I really do miss him.
