Along with the celebration of 40-year-old songs I’m going back fifty years to make you feel old! Actually, more to make you appreciate the incredible staying power of music. You may hear this song on the radio today, and nobody cares that it’s half a century old! Here we go. All the Young Dudes - Mott the Hoople This was Mott the Hoople’s only hit in the U.S. (such as it was: it barely cracked the Billboard top 40), becoming an FM rock staple and one of the great anthems of glam rock. And to think…Mott the Hoople almost didn’t get this song. They rejected another David Bowie song (“Suffragette City”) before Bowie gave them this one. Carry the news that we’re still enjoying this one half a century later! All the Young Dudes Written by David Bowie Recorded by Mott the Hoople From All the Young Dudes, 1972 (Today’s 1982 song: “Centerfold”) My brother’s back at home with his Beatles and his Stones:

I wasn't born yet, but 99% of what I listen to is from the 60/70s, all sorts.. Great year for movies, too! My band used to play this song, but we never played it live.. Same with "Golden Years". Not sure why. Great albums also by Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Curved Air, David Bowie, Elton John, Genesis, Todd Rundgren, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, The Delfonics, etc

1972 truly was a magical year for music, as some of these songs’ golden anniversary will show!

Oh well, have a nice day, visit the 40-year-old song, come back tomorrow, and remember your sunscreen this weekend!

I remember the girls in my class loving David Cassidy too, but I was in the middle of a crush on Don Rich.

I don't recognize this one at all. Mott the Hoople was not on my radar in 1972.

Gee, I don’t know why. Can’t see you as a glam rocker back then. Or now for that matter.

I still love this song, there's just something about it. I saw Mott the Hoople with Traffic and Mountain. One of my very first concerts.

I saw Leslie West (“Leslie West and Mountain”) long, long after the fact…1988, I think.

The funny thing is that even though I was around 10 years of age, the band name "Mott The Hoople" does not ring a bell in my memory bank.

This was the only song of theirs that got airplay in the US. They were much more popular overseas.
