As we look back on songs that turn 40 this year I realize that some of these songs are so freaking overplayed that you might throw a digital brick at me for even mentioning the song. This might be one of them. Then again, you might still love this song as much as I do. Let’s find out with today’s song from 1982. Come on Eileen - Dexy’s Midnight Runners Although they had hits in other countries, “Come on Eileen” was Dexy’s Midnight Runners’ only hit in the U.S. (Of course, we’re easily fooled: these Brits had us thinking they were Irish. ) Therefore, it got played A LOT. I haven’t listened to the radio in eons, so I hear this song only when I want to (or in a restaurant on their piped-in music). And I want to. I love this song. People named Eileen might think differently. Come on Eileen Written by Kevin Rowland, Jim Paterson, and Billy Adams Recorded by Dexy’s Midnight Runners From Too-Rye-Ay, 1982 (Today’s 1972 song: “Brandy [You’re a Fine Girl]”) Poor old Johnnie Ray:

A Classic 80's listen for me! No synthesized pop art here, but some neat sounding catchy instrumentation which I liked You mean they weren't Irish? Yikes

Johnnie Ray moved a million hearts in mono, and this song got us dancing in stereo in 1982.

This is one of those songs where there doesn’t seem to be much middle ground. People love it or hate it. I personally love it!
