What Democrats Will Challenge Biden in 2024?

Let's set aside for a moment that Biden is an undeniable disaster. I think it is clear, and I mean clear, that Biden's out. Not today, of course. But in 2024 Biden will not be the instant nominee for the democrat party. He will be challenged and there will be a primary. The interesting question for me is who in the democrat party will challenge? You have to consider that much like in the UK, where Boris Johnson has overwhelmingly lost support of his own party, the democrats in our own country have clearly lost faith in the ability of Joe Biden to lead the country. He's got to go. Right now, looking across the aisle, I do not see any standout democrats currently who could be successful in a general, so I am curious to know among our many liberal friends here who you think might be a name you'd like to see front and center to take the reigns? On the republican side I am still of the thought that Trump may run. I also see DeSantis and Abbott entering the race. Of course many more names will enter undoubtedly after the midterms and the next presidential election cycle gets into full swing. Interested in thoughts here as polls now show that 88% of Americans do not approve of the job Biden is doing.

I will appluad you in your efforts @LindaOHio, but I am not sure your positions would QUITE align enough with my own to get my vote. But I look forward to examining your campaign.

I would hope we’d get more “centrist” candidates, because right now the Republicans seem to be looking at how far right they can go while the Democrats look at how far left they can move. Most of the country doesn’t want either.

@porwest — why don’t the Democrats like him? For the same reason a lot of Republicans don’t: because Trump is a jerk. Compare his behavior to Ronald Reagan, who could’ve charmed the skin off a snake. Reagan carried every state except Walter Mondale’s in 1984, meaning a whole lot of Democratic voters voted for him.

@FourWalls I disagree that a growing number of republicans are disliking Trump. It just doesn't add up to what I am seeing. It's just like when people said in 2020, "People were running from Trump." It simply was not true since he had 10 million MORE votes in 2020 than in 2016. His support in the GOP remains strong, and I think if he does run, he will likely get the nomination. I think support for him in 2020 was also much stronger than people were lead to believe. As for me, I would definitely vote for him for a third time. I see no logical reason not to based on his policies and the effectiveness of them and how he was able to turnaround eight years of economic stagnancy we endured under Obama that would only have continued as the "new normal" Obama talked about under Hillary. And God only knows what she would have done to the country—she is literally evil and pales Trump in a comparison.

We just had that. Trump actually had MANY positions that were DEMOCRAT positions. The strife was that he accomplished what the dems COULD NOT. He rose wages. He brought back manufacturing jobs. He bolstered black and Hispanic employment. He reduced poverty. He secured the border. The bulk majority of tax cuts went to the regular folks, not the rich. These were mostly things DEMOCRATS said they wanted to do. The democrats did not like him. The question is why?

As a conservative, I don’t even know any candidates from the other side. Lol. Except maybe Hillary or that one guy from Texas who is a thorn in the side of Abbott.

@porwest In fairness, I don't think we have great choices right now from either political party. But I'd take an average republican over a superb democrat anytime! lol

@moffittjc I disagree on this one. DeSantis is a STRONG contender in my opinion. I will agree that other than him, though, aside from Abbott (though he is not a top contender), there really aren't many other names in the field I like. Some that may run could be Asa Hutchinson, Ted Cruz, Nikki Haley and even Donald Trump, Jr. and Mike Pence—none of these names sit very well with me personally. Interestingly enough, we'll be getting a better picture of the field after the midterms. I have long said that if we could get a policy guy with the tenacity of Trump and the charisma of Barack Obama, we could get there. DeSantis is as close as I can come to meeting that criteria a bit, despite his higher level of "controversy."

There really aren't any good names on the democrat side right now. I mean, who are the TOP names? Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, Chuck Schumer, AOC, and not many others. And are ANY of these presidential material? No. Are any of these displaying that they have any ideas better than Biden's? No. In fact, their agendas would be WORSE. I think the democrats are in a lot of trouble here both in the midterms and in 2024. They are losing Hispanic votes. They are losing black votes. They are losing the middle class blue collar vote. They are now losing the rich too as both Bezos and Musk and others are very critical of Biden's administration. I also think it is becoming clearer to at least THINKING Americans that Trump was actually the better choice in 2020. Would we still have faced SOME of the issues we are facing now? Maybe. But we'd have a better idea how to deal with them than what Biden is offering. Biden has set us back nearly 50 years, and no one can blame Trump for that.

@porwest they clearly don’t want him to run in 2024. FBI didn’t raid Hunter’s home. And yet they raided Trump’s.

@lovebuglena Lots to be said about what you just said, and is part of the reason we should be questioning the motives of everything happening now.

Trump has to date made no official announcement. But I feel like it is coming, and this Mar-A-Lago thing might be the thing that seals the answer. Enough is enough. As for AOC she can run all she wants to. No sane American would ever vote for her. No sane American ever has. lol

I think Hillary Clinton is the best choice because she is very competent and experienced too.

I think she would be a poor choice considering she has a very questionable background and of course the American people find her abhorrent. But anything is possible. I appreciate your thoughts.

Trump was a good president. He just had a way of speaking that sometimes grated some people and just left too much for people to chase after and ignore his accomplishments, which were many. It's a shame, really.

Biden's simply not getting the job done, and the people are being vocal about that. But yes. This is a poll of citizens of the USA. The approval/disapproval ratings also differ according to what the question is. But the overall number is what I am looking at.

I think American politics is more batter than others countries. I heard that it has only 2 parties . Is it true??

It is a bit of a misnomer @Zufaqar1. We have two main parties. But we also have independents, the Green Party, the Tea Party and others. Within each party we also have different "factions," such as far left or far right, moderates etc. Politics is complicated, and the best thing a voter can do is not adhere to a party, but LISTEN to the candidates.
