Trying a new antidepressant

I have been on antidepressants on and off for the past 20+ years. At one point or another I've been on Celexa, Lexapro, Prozac, Wellbutrin, Paxil, Trintellix, and Cymbalta. The Lexapro and Trintellix have been the best for me. The last time I was at my primary doctor she switched me to Cymbalta because that also is supposed to help with neuropathy (nerve pain and numbness) which I have in my feet as well as depression. Unfortunately it didn't work for either. Sooooo the psychiatrist at the facility switched me to a "tricyclic" antidepressant called doxepin. It has been around for so long that it doesn't even have a brand name any longer. Tricyclic medications work differently somehow from SSRIs but I'm not exactly sure how. Anyway this doxepin stuff is supposed to help with depression, anxiety, insomnia, and nerve pain. I have 3 of the 4 so I was willing to give it a go. She started me on just 10 mg for a couple of days and now I'm up to 50 mg for 10 days. After that it increases to 75 mg. I am feeling better mentally. I *think* my feet are a little better but I am not sure just yet if that is wishful thinking. I hope this stuff works. I can always go back to the Lexapro but it would be great if the doxepin works even better.

I take escitalopram . I was taking a low dosage and my doctor upped it. I find that it does make me feel better to take the medication in a higher dose. I’m still not 100%, but hoping that it works us self out.

I’m having the neuropathy now, so I’m afraid they’ll start the medicine merry-go-round with me soon. Hope the new medicine works well for you. Let us know.

Yes tricyclics are old, but my husband was on one the first time he took anti depressants. Over the years they gave him others, but with the exception of Zoloft I never felt they helped him as much as the original tricyclic med. I cannot remember its name right now. Good luck.

I really hope it works in treating everything, especially the neuropathy. My mom had neuropathy in her legs, and I know it was really bad for her not being able to feel her feet or legs. She ended up needing the assistance of a cane and then as it got worse, a walker. I hope it doesn't get to that point with you. Take care.

I hope the Doxepin works for you. I have been on Venlafaxine for about 12 years now; and it does the job. They added Abilify a couple of years ago.

I don't know your age but I feel the body should heal itself after every depressing moment. We have the responsibility to motivate the body to the level of awareness we are open to.

This is a medication I've never heard of, Doxepin. I'm sure this will be even better, especially if it helps your feet, also. I'm still taking Lexapro and doing fairly well.

I hope it helps you. I have also tried many medications for my OCD, depression and anxiety. Prozac seems to be working best for me right now, but it doesn't always. I'm just resigned to deal with I guess. My only bright spot is having God in my life, for Jesus helps take me away from the darkness into the light.

I am on Lexapro but a generic brand for escitalopram. Works just fine for me. What I hope is for psychiatrists to just stick to my prescription meds because they work perfect. I hope you are able to find the best for you.

Hope the medications work for you. Do you talk to a counsellor for your depression?
